>Lavrov: Syria's East Ghouta Almost Completely Liberated From Terrorists

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov have commented on the situation in the Damascus suburb of East Ghouta.

>"Most of the militants have been evacuated by now, the restoration of peaceful life is underway. About 90 percent of Eastern Ghouta is already under control of government forces," Lavrov said after a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura in Moscow.

The provocations involving suicide bombers wearing explosive belts were being prepared in the Damascus suburb; the planned attack was targeted at refugees fleeing the war zone on buses.

The Russian military has foiled attempted suicide bombings on buses carrying refugees from East Ghouta, having also found some 48 suicide belts, Sergei Shoigu said on Thursday at a meeting with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

>We are receiving information from residents on a daily basis. Four days ago we got information about preparations for provocations involving "Shaheed belts" and suicide bombers who were to be seated along with refugees. Unfortunately, this information has been confirmed."

According to Shoigu, Russian servicemen seized seven belts on Monday, 32 belts on Tuesday and nine belts on Wednesday.

>"It's easy to imagine what would happen if those suicide bombers blew themselves up on buses with refugees, including women and children. It doesn't matter whether those are families of militants or not."

CONT.

The defense minister said that a total of 11 thousand armed militants and 19 thousand members of their families, as well as over 130 thousand civilians have left East Ghouta so far. He noted that the Russian defense ministry managed to provide a simultaneous evacuation of both militants and civilians from the conflict zones.

"This is a great job that our officers do," he pointed out, adding that Russian troops are providing the refugees with medicine, food, and water as well as lodging for the night.

He also stressed that militant snipers had injured six civilians, adding that the "sniper threat" has been neutralized.
Russia has been facilitating the evacuation of civilians by establishing checkpoints and announced a daily five-hour humanitarian break in the fighting to stop casualties among the population in Eastern Ghouta. This became possible after the adoption of UNSC Resolution 2401 on Syria.
Resolution 2401 urges all parties to the conflict to immediately stop hostilities and adhere to a long-term humanitarian ceasefire for at least 30 days across the entirety of Syrian territory in order to ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid supplies, as well as the medical evacuation of injured people. Despite the adopted document, clashes in the area have continued..

>Basement schools aid children in Syria's Eastern Ghouta

Alaa al-Khamooneh, a mathematics teacher in Douma, Eastern Ghouta's largest city, was forced to take his profession underground in the last month to avoid bombs and aerial attacks.

Since the Syrian and Russian offensive on the largely agricultural region began on February 18, the 35 year old has been part of a teaching initiative that aims to provide a semblance of normality for schoolchildren.

Many residents have taken to living mostly in underground basements or makeshift shelters, in order to escape bombardment from warplanes, which to date have claimed at least 1,644 civilian lives.

"Teachers have been trying to continue with the education process first and foremost to distract the children from the reality around them," Khamoomeh told Al Jazeera.

"It was a way to change what their day-to-day lives have become, from counting explosions to constant crying in fear."

Many of the students suffer from nightmares and panic attacks, symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder which will have a detrimental effect on their lives if left untreated, Khamooneh explained.

"We are trying to tackle this problem with what little resources we have, such as psycho-social sessions and - whenever we have the opportunity - painting," he said.

>Knights of Columbus sends $1M to Iraqi, Syrian Christians for Easter

The Knights of Columbus is providing $800,000 in new financial assistance to aid persecuted Christians in the Middle East. In addition, the Knights will be sending $250,000 as part of its ongoing commitment to rebuilding an Iraqi Christian town.

The $800,000 brings to almost $19 million the aid the Knights have committed to Christians and other religious minorities in the region since 2014. That total includes $2 million committed to the rebuilding of the predominantly Christian town of Karamles on the Nineveh Plain. Karamles had been overrun by ISIS, which destroyed homes, and desecrated churches before it was liberated last year.

As we recall the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, it is particularly timely for us to remember and support our brothers and sisters in Christ who have in places like Iraq and Syria who have endured so much persecution for their faith,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “Having faced suffering and even death at the hands of ISIS, it is our hope that our assistance will assist these communities in rising up again and rebuilding for the future.”

Some $500,000 from the Knights will help support the food program run by the Catholic Archdiocese of Erbil. An additional $300,000 will be sent to the Syriac Catholic Patriarchate to support its aid programs for nearly 3,000 families from Iraq and Syria who have lost everything and are in need of assistance with food, clothing, shelter, and access to education and medical care.

“Our people know that without the direct support from the Knights of Columbus to Christians in the region, and without its assistance in making our case to the United State government, Christianity might already have been driven out of Iraq completely,” said Chaldean Archbishop of Erbil Bashar Warda, CSsR.

>ISRAELI STEALTH FIGHTERS FLY OVER IRAN
2 Israeli F-35 fighter jets entered Iranian airspace over the past month, Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported on Thursday. The act is a signal of heightened regional tensions, especially in light of recent Israeli military attacks in Syria, including against Iranian bases in the country.

Sources quoted in Al-Jarida stated that two stealth fighters flew over Syrian and Iraqi airspace to reach Iran, and even targeted locations in the Iranian cities Bandar Abbas, Esfahan and Shiraz.

The report states that the two fighter jets, among the most advanced in the world, circled at high altitude above Persian Gulf sites suspected of being associated with the Iranian nuclear program.

It also states that the two jets went undetected by radar, including by the Russian radar system located in Syria. The source refused to confirm if the operation was undertaken in coordination with the US army, which has recently conducted joint exercises with the IDF.

The source added that the seven F-35 fighters in active service in the IAF have conducted a number of missions in Syria and on the Lebanese-Syrian border. He underlined that the fighter jets can travel from Israel to Iran twice without refueling.

>Eastern Ghouta: Syrian regime gives Jaish al-Islam rebels final ultimatum

The Syrian regime has given the Jaish al-Islam group a final, three-day ultimatum to leave the last remaining rebel-held town in Eastern Ghouta.
The 72-hour deadline began on Wednesday night, according to Syrian state TV.

Jaish al-Islam, which controls Douma, the largest town in Eastern Ghouta, has been in talks for days with Russian mediators. The Syrian regime insists on the rebel group leaving the area for Idlib in northern Syria, as other rebels have done as part of several evacuation agreements.

>LIFE TERM FOR MAN WHO KILLED WIFE BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T WANT HIM TO JOIN ISIS

An Australian man has been sentenced to life in prison for stabbing his wife to death in front of their three young children, in what police believe was a domestic dispute over his wish to join ISIS in Syria.

The 36-year-old man, who cannot be named in order to protect his children, will be eligible for parole in 30 years, Australia’s ABC News network reported. He pled guilty to the murder charge.

The man’s 27-year-old wife was stabbed to death at the family’s home in the Melbourne suburbs in July 2016. One of the children told detectives that his mother’s “body was nothing but blood” after the attack.

The woman’s body had multiple knife wounds and showed evidence of blunt force trauma. The ferocity of the assault was such that her right eye had been gouged out and two of her fingers cut off. An autopsy found multiple old scars on her body, suggesting that domestic abuse was routine. The court heard that she most likely bled to death.

>To fight on foreign soil
In recent years several hundred Europeans and Americans have joined the Kurdish YPG forces in Syria to first fight ISIL and now Turkey. Frenchman Maxime Barrat*, who is in contact with Belgian secret services, is only one of them.

"Their names are Maxime, Hanna and William. They are a truck driver, model and restaurant owner. The number of westerners who go to Syria to first fight Daesh and now Turkey, joining Kurdish forces, is increasing by the day. The People's Protection Units, or YPG, are considered by Ankara as a terrorist organization like the PKK. In this context, the departure of fighters is beginning to worry the European Union and especially Belgium, seen as a hub for these Western fighters and many other people accused of terrorism in their country of origin," reports euronews' Gülsüm Alan.

Maxime Barrat now lives in Belgium where he has made himself known to the authorities and shares information with them about his time in Syria.

"We were all spectators...All humans were spectators to this - how to say - of this massacre. İt was a massacre. We leave people to die without doing anything. And I told myself why not go? It is risky, it is dangerous, especially with ISIL, it is treacherous. They are very duplicitous on the ground. When you wake up at 7am it can be at any moment a guy with an explosive jacket who explodes himself 10 metres away from you,” he says.
youtu.be/mpMDnx9Ux6g

"I am proud what I did but here in Canada the bubble is so thick here that people have no clue. Nobody knows what I did. The police they are all ok with me, they interviewed me . Nobody has a problem with anything. Most of the time people don't even know what the YPG is. I have to explain a lot," she says with a smile.

>Breaking: Russian troops foil massive kamikaze operation by militants in Syria’s Damascus involving dozens of bombers – details

BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:10 P.M.) – Moments ago, Russian Minister of Defence Sergei Shoigu announced that Russian military security forces based in Damascus’ East Ghouta region had prevented a massive suicide bomber operation by Syrian militant groups.

According to the defense minister, Russian troops have seized 48 explosive belts between Monday and Wednesday that were to be used by jihadist suicide fighters against civilians evacuating from East Ghouta on buses.

Russian troops were following up on information given to them by local sources four days ago that defeated militants (now being forced to withdraw from East Ghouta under government forces protection) in East Ghouta were planning a massive ‘provocation’ attack against civilians.

‘It’s easy to imagine what would happen if those suicide bombers blew themselves up on buses with refugees, including women and children. It doesn’t matter whether those are families of militants or not,’ Shoigu concluded.

Updates to follow.

>Diplomat reminds that NATO inherited Czechoslovakia’s chemical industry potential

NATO countries are using the chemical industry potential of the Czech Republic and its developments in the sphere of protection from chemical warfare agents, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

The diplomat thus commented on the statement by the Foreign Ministry of Russia, which mentioned the Czech Republic among the countries that had been developing the nerve agent called Novichyok and used, as the UK claims, to poison former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skripal.
"The work codenamed Novichyok was conducted in Great Britain, the US, the Czech Republic and Sweden. The results achieved by these countries to create new chemical agents of this type are reflected in more than 200 open sources of NATO countries," the spokeswoman said, noting that Czechia had been carrying out research into chemical protection within the Warsaw Treaty Organization.

"In all media outlets, there are publications on this theme, which say that after the organization’s dissolution, the Czech scientific potential in this field was sought by its new western partners and inherited by NATO," Zakharova said.

The Czech army performed special missions in the Middle East, including the work to eliminate the consequences of the use of chemical weapons in Kuwait, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman said.

The publications existing in the media on the activity of scientific centers for the study of chemical warfare agents in the Czech Republic make it possible to conclude that "an important place in this research is held by nerve agents called Novichyok according to the western classification, the Russian diplomat noted.

>Russian diplomat comments on heavy weapons arriving in Syria's al-Tanf

Moscow finds worrisome the activities of the US-led coalition in the area of Syria’s al-Tanf, where heavy military equipment is arriving, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a news briefing on Thursday.

"As before, quite worrisome are the reports the United States and its allies have been consolidating their illegal military presence in the territory of sovereign Syria, in particular, those about the arrival of heavy weapons in the zone around Al-Tanf in the southeast, arbitrarily established by the Americans," Zakharova said.

A US military base is located near Al-Tanf. As Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the US had declared an area 55 kilometers around Al Tanf as a zone of its influence. The refugee camp Rukban is located there.

In December 2017, the chief of Russia’s General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, said the Pentagon was unable to explain what it needed the base for in a situation where the territory of Syria had been cleared of terrorists.

>Turkey prosecutors order detention of 70 army officers over alleged Gulen links – reports
Prosecutors in Turkey ordered the detention of 70 serving army officers over alleged links to the US-based preacher accused of orchestrating an attempted coup in 2016, CNN Turk reported on Thursday. Police launched operations in 38 provinces across Turkey in a probe led by state prosecutors in the central Turkish province of Konya, Reuters said. The suspects were targeted based on statements by soldiers previously detained over ties to the cleric Fethullah Gulen, and were believed to have been responsible for recruiting students for Gulen’s movement, according to the report. The UN human rights office said earlier this month that Ankara has detained 160,000 people and dismissed nearly the same number of civil servants since the failed coup in July 2016. Turkey blames the coup on Gulen, but he denies any involvement.

>Seven years of Syria’s civil war: What Brookings experts are saying

7 years after the Syrian uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, the country remains mired in conflict. As Brookings experts have analyzed, the United States, Russia, Turkey, Iran, and other regional powers are entangled in the conflict in one way or another, with varying aims.

>RUSSIA
Although Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared “victory” over ISIS in Syria, Nonresident Senior Fellow Pavel Baev points out that “Russian forces on the ground are still taking casualties, Russia’s alliances are in disarray, and its Syria policy has lost decisiveness and direction.”

As Polykova puts it: “Indeed, it is difficult to see a clean Russian exit from Syria that doesn’t leave Assad vulnerable.”

>ISRAEL, IRAN, AND HEZBOLLAH
According to Nonresident Senior Fellow Mara Karlin, Syria has also become a battleground for regional powers in the Levant, chiefly Israel, Iran, and Iranian proxies like Hezbollah. For Hezbollah, she argues that supporting the Assad regime has been paramount: “Hezbollah has gained substantial operational experience in Syria, where it has effectively knit together a number of violent nonstate actors in support of its expeditionary mission to prop up President Bashar al-Assad.”

For Israel, Karlin contends, “Its border with Syria, historically its quietest, is now unhinged. The Israeli leadership has made no secret of its concern about Hezbollah’s military maturation in the Syria conflict.”

And now with ISIS driven out of Syria, Karlin fears that such regional arch-rivals (Iran and Israel) could clash in Syria: “The resulting tensions are likely to bring Israel to the brink of a regional war even bigger than the last one in 2006, when it invaded southern Lebanon.”

Visiting Fellow Dror Michman and Yael Mizrahi-Arnaud also see cause for concern over heightened tensions and escalation. In February, Israel shot down an Iranian drone in response to a Syrian attack on an Israeli plane. Michman and Mizrahi-Arnaud explain that Israel “has conveyed privately to European leaders—to relay to Tehran—that if a diplomatic solution could not be worked out, Israel would use military means.” Tehran is making its own calculations: “[it] is determined to not only preserve the Assad regime, but also to capitalize on its gains,” they write.

Michman and Mizrahi-Arnaud warn that Iran will continue to challenge Israel, and Israel will be forced to react, increasing the possibility of military conflict.

>THE UNITED STATES
What is the United States to do? Senior Fellow Michael O’Hanlon argues that the United States needs a more clearly defined strategy:

It is time to get serious about a sounder strategy for the war writ large. Otherwise, the human suffering could continue, the terrorist threat could return, and the opportunities for Iran and Hezbollah to expand their influence at the expense of U.S. allies like Jordan and Israel could expand.

The U.S., adds Karlin, is at a crossroads in Syria: “The fundamental debate for Washington going forward must focus on whether counter terrorism or broader geopolitical affairs should be the priority in Syria.”

CONT.

>TURKEY
Turkey fears that an emboldened Syrian Kurdistan and the predominance of the YPG—the armed wing of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), which has gone from strength to strength in recent years—would fuel its own restive Kurdish population and, therefore, strengthen the PKK’s insurgency.

This adds a new element of danger to the conflict, adds Kirişci: “This situation risks bringing Turkey and the United States into a military confrontation, unheard of in their 70-year long alliance.”

>WHATS NEXT?
After seven long years of war, Post-Doctoral Fellow Katy Collin paints a grim picture:

At the moment, it seems that prospects for peace in Syria through a negotiated settlement are dim. It appears as if the Syrian regime intends to regain control of some or all of the rebel-held territory. That is quite a bit of land, and therefore this year might be characterized by more horrific violence targeting civilians.

Karlin also contends that the race to capture territory no longer under ISIS’s control could spark more geopolitical tensions. “A race to claim the last territory under ISIS control is now giving way to jostling for influence over a potential settlement in the broader war. And that’s very dangerous,” she says.

Regardless, it is clear that a stabilization strategy is needed. O’Hanlon writes that the United States may not be willing to invest in such a strategy. Senior Fellow Tamara Cofman Wittes and Brian Reeves lay out an international framework for reconstruction for Syria and the region more broadly.

And ultimately the Syrian state will continue to be a battleground, notes Distinguished Fellow Itamar Rabinovich: “Now, the conflict focuses more and more on the country’s future as a pawn in the struggle between the principal regional and international actors.”

So the kikes were bullshitting all along?
Why go to all these lengths to lie about destroying a non-existent reactor when their bigger enemy, Iran, has a proper active program?
Couldn't they destroy whatever the Iranians had instead?

I'd bet my house, my car, and everything I own that this little girl is more white than you and your mutt family.

>UN Probe Into Syria Gas Attacks is 'Tool in Hands of Some Countries' – Damascus

The Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM) into the use of chemical weapons in Syria has become a political tool in the hands of some countries and ended up as a failure, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad told Sputnik, referring to repeated unfounded accusations toward Damascus on the part of the US-led coalition.

A new mechanism to probe Syrian chemical attacks is needed, as the previous one has turned out to be a failure, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad told Sputnik Arabic.

>"Russia proposed the UN Security Council creating a new commission to investigate the cases for the use of chemical weapons in Syria to replace the joint UN-OPCW [Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons] mission [Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM)]," Mekdad elaborated. "However, the Russian project was rejected over differences in vision on the commission's future work. Russia wants the investigation to be conducted by depoliticized professionals and conclusions to be made on the basis of proven data; the sources should be trustworthy while the work carried out with the maximum transparency."

In late January Russia proposed a draft resolution on the creation of the United Nations Independent Mechanism of Investigation (UNIMI).
The Russia-proposed mechanism sought to oblige UN experts to visit the sites of chemical attacks in order to collect all the evidence about supposed attacks.

The draft document said that "the UNIMI in conducting its investigations must be guided by high standards established by the CWC [Chemical Weapons Convention] and, accordingly, use the whole spectrum of relevant methods envisaged in the above-mentioned Convention and in particular Part XI of its Annex on Implementation and Verification, which includes investigation, sampling, interviewing witnesses and collection of evidence and information on the site of an incident."

CONT.

As far as i know our services caught 2 of them in the Venizelos airport a few days ago.
They had plans on creating training facilities here apparently. Maybe the MIT had something to do with it.

>p-please ignore him bros! Just like we practiced on r/syria!

Moscow's initiative was hailed by Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Liu Jieyi, who told members of the UN Security Council on January 23, 2018 that Beijing "welcomes the draft resolution distributed by Russia on establishing a new investigative mechanism on Syrian chemical weapons."

Referring to JIM, Mekdad underscored that "the previous joint investigation mechanism has failed."

>"It became an instrument of political manipulation in the hands of some countries," he pointed out. "Russia has consistently stated that it is fully prepared to monitor its work."

The Syrian deputy foreign minister noted that "America, France and other countries make completely unfounded accusations towards Syria of using chemical weapons during the war."
"We hear the US State Department's false accusations that we are blocking investigations into the use of chemical weapons in Syria. But we have responded to all these statements," Mekdad stressed.

While addressing the United Nations-sponsored Conference on Disarmament in Geneva on February 28, Syrian Envoy to the United Nations Hussam Edin Aala reiterated that Damascus destroyed its chemical weapons stockpiles several years ago.

"Syria cannot possibly be using chemical weapons because it very simply has none in its possession," Aala said.

It legitimizes their narrative. Notice how it took several years to track down the truth? If Israel wanted to get something done immediately (like manipulate burgers), why not fudge evidence. It worked in Iraq to get that war going. This might've also been their last chance to get Bush to act on Syria, before an unknown quantity took Office(like Obama's hands-off, passive-aggressive geopolitical bullshit).

Got it! Thanks for the updates

>Germany sells arms to Turkey despite Afrin offensive, German broadcaster reports
Last week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the Turkish offensive in the Syrian enclave "unacceptable." But that has not stopped her government from selling arms to Turkey, German public media reported.

Germany continues to authorize the export of weapons to Turkey despite criticizing the country's offensive in the Syrian enclave of Afrin, German public broadcaster ARD reported Thursday.

The German government has approved the export of military equipment worth €4.4 million ($5.4 million) since January 20, when Turkey launched its offensive against Kurdish militia in Afrin, ARD said, citing a response from the Foreign Ministry to a question by the Left party.

The value of the approvals in the month preceding the offensive was almost €10 million.

I see. But why even bother bullshitting if you don't co-ordinate with the agencies you want to push towards a goal? Surely one would expect the CIA to also push the syrian nuclear reactor memi.

>PKK cannot fool Turkey by changing names: PM Yıldırım

The outlawed Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) and its affiliates cannot “fool” Turkey by changing their names, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has said, referring to the Syria’s Future Party (SFP) which announced its establishment in Raqqa on March 27.

The SFP is nothing but the Democratic Union Party (PYD) using another name, Yıldırım claimed on March 29, saying such groups frequently change their names and acronyms to avoid being affiliated with groups listed as terror organizations.

“They might fool some of our friends but they cannot fool the Republic of Turkey,” Yıldırım told reporters at a press conference before leaving for Sarajevo.

Turkey considers the PYD and the People’s Protection Units (YPG) as the Syrian extensions of the PKK and a threat to Turkey’s security.

“We have been saying for a long time that they keep changing their names. We come across these groups using different names in Syria, different names in Iraq; but when they take off their cloaks, they show their true selves. We know them very well,” Yıldırım said.

“Terrorist organizations change their names in order to survive,” he added.

Considering the number of times they've been lied to by Mossad up to that point, I'm not surprised they too kit with a grain of salt. They were still mired in the escalation of the two wars they were already involved in, as Afghanistan was already at it's peak numbers of Coalition troops, and Iraq still had some Obama escalations to go.
