not likely. taxi drivers got fucked because a lot of them had to basically take out mortgages to buy the $250K taxicab medallions that they are required to have.
so, imagine you finally bought the thing and then uber comes along and eats your lunch. you're fucked.
that same thing won't happen to uber drivers because they don't need to make a huge investment to drive for uber. once they start not being able to make a living driving for uber, they'll just move on to the next stupid low-paying job.

No. Yellow taxis have been a fucking shitty thing in nyc. I’m glad uber was a distruptor and changed that paradigm.
You know you need a “medallion” to operate as a yellow cab in nyc. A city of 8 million and they capped the medallions at 12,000. Basically who ever owns the medallions could lease them so you can be allowed to drive them. It’s a shitty government backed deal. I’m glad that the medallions are becoming worthless and more people can work for themselves instead of having to lease it.
Next is food vendor truck license. there’s only like 4000 of them. And none have been added in decades. So basically these people own the license, they don’t even operate the food truck but lease them out for 70-80k a year. And pay 200$ for renewal every 2 years. As long as they renew they hold it even if they don’t use it.
I fucking hate government of nyc. The only reason everything is so expensive here is government policies and greedy old mother fuckers who won’t let the young generation have a chance at anything.

This is actually true. Uber has started to die down in my city, but is being replaced by the food delivery services now. People don't need to uber to McDonald's if they can have McDonalds uber'd to them.

I havent had a sense of smell in about a decade and one of the things I vividly remember is the stench of cabs, and I imagine that hasnt changed over the years.
