Lawful firearm ownership and carry law is a 2nd amendment Constitutional issue that has already been decided, much like Roe V. Wade. If you respect the Constitution and the Democratic process, then you must either respect the outcome of that process, or be willing to move to a state or country with laws more to your individual liking.
Crime is a consequence of corrupt human hearts that desire to do evil, not the specific weapon used. Guns themselves, much like hammers, swords, or even stones, are neutral tools until they are wielded and used for a purpose, be it good or bad. But the tool itself is neutral, and may be used for either purpose depending upon the intent of the person using it.

Similarly, instead of addressing the root causes of why people commit violent crimes, and taking decisive measures to correct those root causes, simply choosing to blame any specific weapon type for violent crime in general is like the dog looking at the finger, instead of looking where the finger is pointing.
