Judges should be as close to lawful neutral as humanly possible. No matter what they agree or disagree with politically, they should simply read the writing of the constitution and honestly attempt to interpret the meaning and the uphold or strike down laws based on that.
We have a process to amend the constitution, that's how we should change the laws, not this bullshit with activist judges.
Its pretty damn easy too, does the constitution give the federal govt the power to do something? Yes or no? That's all that's needed.
The only other thing to consider is if something like the first or second amendment apply to the states as well as the federal govt.
It's not hard but they'll interpret "shall no be infringed" as "sure outlaw full auto and silencers and barrel length". Or they'll say "corporations are people", all because they support an ideology and not the law as it's written.

They had a flop with O'Connor, hit it out of the park with Scalia, then Kennedy and Souter both ended up moderates. Gorsuch shouldn't have been a Republican seat but they pulled a fast one there and kept the tide from reversing.
