I'm trying to become an instrumentation technician in Alberta and basically the process is a 2 engineering technology course, then 4 years of apprenticeship, the first 2 years require only 700 hours each due to time spend in trade school, and the next 2 years require 1400 hours each. You could skip the 2 year course and just go straight to an apprenticeship but unless you have connections for a job you're probably fucked .

well to be an electrician, you need to learn the wiring code. Many states in the USA have such codes which are to help efficiency and safety.
If you're smart you can learn this yourself at any time.

I think what this waiting time did was allow for people to request to gain an electrician license while also going to college to gain the knowledge on how to be one, expecting like four years or some shit. take their mandatory classes and do the apprentice ship.

also that apprenticeship is literally 375 days worth of hours. so expect like 2-3 years while also doing the college work.
