The fact that industrializing raises peoples quality of life is irrelevant if you prefer the fact that industrializing harms the natural Earth. The fact that gun control reduces people's right to self defense is irrelevant if you prefer to be a safe slave than an unsafe free man.

So surface level facts will not often help in an argument unless you can additionally argue for the (sometimes subjective) values beneath them.
