Meh, if you want to give up culture. I mean, it seems from my visits that all the culture is pretty much gone in most of europe anyway, just in the museums and opera houses of some cities, and the architecture of old villages.

But america has beautiful towns, and if you avoid certain areas, you can have a better experience. For instance, the northeast is really bad, except for Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Western Massachusetts and upstate New York have some nice areas, too. The west, like Oregon and Montana are really nice. Wyoming is great but remote as anything. Utah has beautiful parts but is largely a culture shock in the desert and the cities are cancerous. Idaho in the northern panhandle is really nice. Some parts of the appalachians are nice, if you avoid the meth towns. Alaska is nice, too.

Depends, a lot of Californians have moved there and changed things, but there are still many quaint villages in some really stunning locations, and the cities are liveable, but have homeless and other problems. But if you can afford a place like Vail or Telluride or Aspen, sure things are nice.
