I never really understood why marriage is a standard and a goal for a lot of people. The only benefit is the tax break right? Most marriages end up divorced and lose years, material items.So why? Why is this a goal for millions of people to get married. If you truly want to be with someone it shouldnt have to be recongized the by the state/church/etc.

The majority of relatives that I know are married have been married for 20+ years and show no sign of divorcing, that's 8-9 20 yr+ couples and only 1 is unofficially seperated. It's just a different culture for them, they were raised from childhood to find someone and marry them for life.
