I'm a big guy and white, and I scare my female coworkers all the time just by stepping into a room as they turn around. If a woman saw me lurkin in an alleyway she'd probably scream and run too. I'd probably fucking apologize for scaring her as I did not intend to and was just exiting an alleyway. But I understand her reaction. Even I would be wary about a man of ANY color emerging from an alleyway I was passing.
