While it is hilarious to see the pure irony of this, as far as I can tell, clear backpacks will do basically nothing. If you wanted to hide a gun, you could just get a binder with a hidden pouch, and put it in that. Obviously you couldn't hide a large gun in it, but you have options. You can also use a coat pocket. I wore a long black trenchcoat with deep pockets to school every day since middle school, and now that I'm working on my PhD, I still wear one every day. In fact, I'm wearing it while I type. Though I don't use it to hide things I'm not allowed to have on campus, I theoretically could. So could these students.

All of the solutions being proposed to deal with mass shooters are security theater at best.

Clear backpacks: As above, hide on person or inside of a separate container.

Armed teachers: Find a target other than schools. Movie theaters, malls, etc... are just as vulnerable. Or maybe the shooter would take them out at a range. A very notorious school shooter was a woman who lived near a school and shot students in the parking lot from her house.

Ban semi-autos: Use a lever action or bolt action rifle. Decrease in rate of fire is not significant

Ban standard capacity magazines: Also not significant. IIRC, Eric and Dylan did just fine with lots of 10 round magazines.

Ban all guns: Print one, make one in your basement, buy illegally or steal one. Plenty of options.

Ban bullets: Use a bomb instead. Oklahoma City Bombing took out a ton of people with what, fertilizer?
