Basically when you upload an image to Jow Forums it will be saved as numbers.ext where the numbers is time passed since 1970 jan 1st in seconds, so if 2 images get uploaded on the same board at the same second then 1 will overwrite the other, so what you are seeing is the same exaxt image

Which could be mitigated in any number of ways if someone cared to, but it's probably left in as 'a funny thing that happens' on purpose. You could, for example, add file size mod on to the front of that string to divide the probably of this issue by whatever number was chosen. My guess is timestamps were originally good enough, and that in some way hashing an attribute of the image is prone to being manipulated, and in some way hashing an attribute of the server (like pid) is prone to leaking information, so they weren't pursued originally.
