Greetings user. Recent convert to Christianity here. Not officially affiliated yet but feel called to Anglo-Catholicism. Lent was rewarding but challenging -- gave up most of my internet use and social media. Easter was wonderful with my family, took our two young children to their first Easter service.

Go for it

>H-hey did y-you like the gospel?
Yeah
>y-you too

Congratulations on your conversion, and best of luck on choosing a denomination. Anglo-Catholicism is very interesting, and has a very rich history. I especially admire the Anglo-Catholics' appreciation for the monarchy. I do have doctrinal issues with them, though, and don't see much apologetics coming from them. Have you heard of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter? It is the Roman Catholic Personal Ordinariate for Anglican converts. Maybe check them out?

I'm not gonna do it now.

Interesting quote that I just found.

>"You are aware indeed, that the goal of this most iniquitous plot is to drive people to overthrow the entire order of human affairs and to draw them over to the wicked theories of this Socialism and Communism, by confusing them with perverted teachings. But these enemies realize that they cannot hope for any agreement with the Catholic Church, which allows neither tampering with truths proposed by faith, nor adding any new human fictions to them. This is why they try to draw the Italian people over to Protestantism, which in their deceit they repeatedly declare to be only another form of the same true religion of Christ, thereby just as pleasing to God. Meanwhile they know full well that the chief principle of the Protestant tenets, i.e., that the holy scriptures are to be understood by the personal judgment of the individual, will greatly assist their impious cause. They are confident that they can first misuse the holy scriptures by wrong interpretation to spread their errors and claim God's authority while doing it. Then they can cause men to call into doubt the common principles of justice and honor."
Encyclical On the Church in the Pontifical States, Bl. Pius IX

Thank you very much, user. I haven't heard of it but I am looking it up now. It sounds interesting. As for doctrine, yes, there is so much to sort through and I'm still getting my bearings. I figure I'll just keep plodding along and reading as I go.

Here is a good Catholic perspective and origin story of the Personal Ordinariate. Enjoy. :)

How does the CLDS teach validly without holy orders or apostolic succession?

Catholicism is a bastardisation of Christianity. There's not salvation inside the Catholic church. Repent today and believe the gospel.
youtube.com/watch?v=WDEBz25lGdY

Paul demands that Christians adhere to the valid successors of the apostles in 1 Corinthians 11:2 and 2 Thessalonians 2:15. All Roman Catholic bishops can trace their apostolic lineage back to the apostles who were ordained by Jesus Christ to minister on Earth.

I'm losing faith in Catholicism why ?
>it's getting cucked hard
>the bible has been edited in time
>pedophiles
>unstable af due to the pope changing

I'm starting to think that Islam is a better alternative solution

I'm not interesting in debating you or anyone else, either believe the gospel or get fucked. You make your choice.

>It's getting cucked hard
Remember that it is the Roman Catholic Church which allowed Europe to achieve such greatness, and when it was abandoned - Europe came crashing down. The values embodied in the Church may be manipulated for political purposes, such as immigration, but those are political policies and are not infallible doctrines which must be upheld by every Catholic.

>the bible has been edited in time
The Bible has been translated throughout time, sure, but not edited by the Church. Remember that all of the Books were written in Greek, Hebrew, etc. and not English.

>pedophiles
The Church is actively taking measures to defrock pedophile priests, and correct previous shortcomings.

>unstable af due to the pope changing
The Church has arguable the most stable government out of any other religion. The Church is similar to a monarchy, which is incredibly stable. Most religions, like Islam, have no structure at all - notice how all of the various factions fight continuously.

>the Roman Catholic Church which allowed Europe to achieve such greatness

Because protestant countries are shitholes? It certainly didn't make Latin America rise to "greatness".

>The Church is actively taking measures to defrock pedophile priests

As seen by the Pope defending them, which sparked even protests in Chile because the fucker was such a massive abuser with over a hundred reported victims?

>The Church has arguable the most stable government out of any other religion.

You literally have a "resigned" pope, after having a CIA stooge as one, and now you have a raving leftists put there by the satanists. Your entire leadership is blackmailed through pedophilia, and it has been so for centuries. There have been many anti-popes and civil wars inside it, not to mention half of christendom departing from Rome's tyranicall and corrupt hand.

Fuck off.

Attached: 1520046857316.gif (500x349, 88K)

Dude we got a pope who supports LGBTQ rights and acts like a liberal, Christianity is unstable itself if you look at all the different faiths regarding Catholicism I meant it's unstable due to the changing of the Pope since each pope has its own ideas and th clergy ofc needs to follow him.

plus the bible wasn't directly written by Jesus but by his followers so who can confirm they are writing the exact same things Jesus said ?

This

>Dude we got a pope who supports LGBTQ rights and acts like a liberal
"(Same-sex marriage) is a destructive pretension against the plan of God. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God."
- Pope Francis

Yeah, so tolerant of LGBT...

When did he say this ? I guess before he was pope because it doesn't sound like he is following that path

>Because protestant countries are shitholes?
Yes. Literally all of them

>As seen by the Pope defending them
The Chile bishop is under investigation by a special Vatican prosecutor as we speak. Prior to the visit, Pope Francis was unaware of the allegations against Rev. Fernando Karadima, who belongs in Bishop Juan Barros Madrid's jurisdiction. The bishop is not a pedophile and that is not what the allegations are. The allegations against the bishop claim that he did not defrock this priest, Rev. Fernando. This is being investigated after the Chilean Catholics brought it to the Pope's attention.

Then you just make idiotic Alex Jones level conspiracy theories that I'm not addressing unless you bring valid sources with them.

Sadly there is a lot of truth to this. Hang the commie pope.

Pope Francis said this while he was a Cardinal and during the campaign in Argentina that resulted in the legalization of same-sex marriage in 2010. He become Pope in 2013.

As Pope he has said the following:
"Gay marriage discriminates against children, in advance, depriving them of their human development given by a father and a mother and willed by God. At stake is the total rejection of God's law engraved in our hearts and the very survival of the human family, which he defined as father, mother, and their children."

Attached: 1520976160344.png (768x1024, 770K)

Well there you go he said that BEFORE HE WAS POPE
Seems like Francis changed his mind kek

I've already provided quotes from Pope Francis against gay marriage. Read up if you'd like them. He does not believe in gay marriage, and actively fought against it in Argentina.

Those people are not Catholic since they do not follow Church teaching. Just because they call themselves Catholic does not mean they actually belong to the Church. If they deny its teaching, then they aren't Catholic.

Thanks friend!

Sorry, you may dislike the denominations as much as you like, doesn't make The Netherlands or Switzerland shitholes. The majority of catholic countries are factually Latin American and other Third World... shitoles.

The fact that the Chilean bishop is under investigation doesn't change that Francis openly came in his defense and supported him, and that the Catholic Church response to pedophile leadership is very weak. But everyone who points that out is some "crazy Alex Jones" conspiracy theorist, nice denial there...

>doesn't make The Netherlands or Switzerland shitholes
The Catholic Church is the largest religion in both of those countries.

>The fact that the Chilean bishop is under investigation doesn't change that Francis openly came in his defense and supported him
Francis did not support the bishop, he was blindsided by protesters demanding change. Francis responded that no clear evidence has been brought to him, but he will investigate - which he is doing right now as I've said.

>Doesn't change his pro-sodomy instance, and support of all sorts of demonic abominations.
Vague. Clarify yourself.

Oh wow, he doesn't support legalizing gay marriage. What is next, you're going to tell me he doesn't support abortion, or the prohibition of communion? Holding someone up for maintaining basically church tenets is low-tier - if he didn't, you would not have a church even. Doesn't change his pro-sodomy instance, and support of all sorts of demonic abominations.

There is no defense for this puppet here, unless you're working for the people behind his selection... And they are far from being our allies...

>The Catholic Church is the largest religion in both of those countries.

Oh wow, historical protestant countries (I think they are still majority protestant, even if catholicism is the biggest single denomination), still, Denmark, Finland and so on aren't shitholes.

>believing the public statements and facade

Yeah, very slow investigations there... I wonder...

>I think they are still majority protestant, even if catholicism is the biggest single denomination
They aren't.

>still, Denmark, Finland and so on aren't shitholes.
Keep telling yourself that lol

>still, Denmark, Finland and so on aren't shitholes.

Denmark just put up a statue celebrating a "black queen" that fought against Danish colonialism lol

Q: If catholic church is the only way to salvation, how were ppl saved before catholic church was invented ?

Q: If catholic church is the only way to salvation, how were ppl saved before catholic church was invented ?

Before the Catholic Church would be before Jesus, and the good Jews were not saved since God had not yet opened the gates of Heaven with Jesus's sacrifice.

The good Jews who were pious went to a place called "Abraham's Bosom," and after Christ's crucifixion they were granted access to Heaven.

Info on Abraham's Bosom:
newadvent.org/cathen/01055a.htm

So technically they were saved, just not in Heaven yet. Doesn't answer the question

They were saved after Christ brought them to Heaven, yes.

Q2: How exactly is one saved in catholic church?

Not Catholic, but glad to see these treads being made.

Nope. Again, they were saved, just not in heaven. Even so, catholic church appeared several hundreds years after Christ. What happened with the ppl between Christ and catholic church?

>Q2: How exactly is one saved in catholic church?
The Catholic study of salvation is called soteriology, if you'd like to look that up yourself for more info.

Persons are saved by adhering to the sacraments of the Catholic Church, such as Reconciliation (where sins are forgiven) and Eucharist. We are saved through a combination of faith and works, since without works faith is meaningless.

>Even so, catholic church appeared several hundreds years after Christ.
The Catholic Church was created in Matt. 16:18 when Christ gave the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven to St. Peter, who is our first Pope. St. Peter is followed by St. Linus who is the second Pope, and so on until we have Pope Francis. There was always a Catholic Church.

Let's say it's true.
Eucharist is once a week (Sunday usually) and Reconciliation is even rarely. What happens with ppl who die midweek? Ppl start sinning the moment they left church.
If CC started with Peter, where are the sacraments in the Bible?

>Eucharist is once a week (Sunday usually) and Reconciliation is even rarely.
Eucharist usually happens on Sunday and Wednesday (which is a backup day for people who can't make it on Sunday), while Reconciliation is typically Wednesday and Saturday. In large churches there is Eucharist and Reconciliation every day.

If someone dies midweek then it depends on their current situation. If they continued to commit mortal sins between church then they will likely go to Hell.

If the person did not commit mortal sins, they will go to Heaven.

If the person did not commit mortal sins, but committed venial sins, they will first go to Purgatory and then they will go to Heaven.

Where are all of these described in the Bible?

Q3: Jesus saved ppl based on faith alone. How does CC explain it?

>Where are all of these described in the Bible?
Sacrament of Reconciliation:
(John 20:21-23) Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

In this verse, Jesus allows the apostles to forgive sins on behalf of God while on Earth.

Sacrament of Eucharist:
(Luke 22:19) And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me."

In this quote Jesus tells the apostles, during the last supper, that the bread is consecrated into His real Body, and tells them to continue eating It in remembrance of Him, which implies that He will die and they must continue the practice.

>denmark is a shithole
>the philippines aren't

This is your brain on "catholic identity"...

>Denmark just put up a statue celebrating a "black queen" that fought against Danish colonialism

Because that doesn't happen in catholic countries? You know, I live in one and there is a statue of an African in my city. Also there are many black catholic countries who... put up statues of black people.

So faith also, if it have not works, is dead in itself. [18] But some man will say: Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without works; and I will shew thee, by works, my faith. [19] Thou believest that there is one God. Thou dost well: the devils also believe and tremble. [20] But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
[21] Was not Abraham our father justified by works, offering up Isaac his son upon the altar? [22] Seest thou, that faith did co-operate with his works; and by works faith was made perfect? [23] And the scripture was fulfilled, saying: Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him to justice, and he was called the friend of God. [24] Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only? (James 2:17-24).

Here, it is states that "faith without works" is dead. If you have faith, but ignore it and continue doing bad things, you will still go to Hell.

>Reconciliation
Maybe, but they were the apostles. Jesus didn't say they were to pass it further down
> Eucharist
Nope it doesn't say that. Even so, the sacrament of Eucharist in CC involves a lot more than just giving bread and wine. There a whole technical process and a lot of details there which are nowhere found in the Bible

By knowing, loving, and serving God in this life

I know all of these but doesn't apply, Jesus only considered faith alone

Bible is more accurate. John 14:6
> I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Where is CC here?

Are you under the impression that anyome ever actually believed in these Gods? Because they didn't. They were the Harry Potter/Game of Thrones/Star wars of their time.

>MY FEELING AS A CHRISTIAN POINTS ME TO MY LORD AND SAVIOUR AS A FIGHTER. IT POINTS ME TO THE MAN WHO ONCE IN LONELINESS, SURROUNDED ONLY BY A FEW FOLLOWERS, RECOGNIZED THESE JEWS FOR WHAT THEY WERE AND SUMMONED MEN TO THE FIGHT AGAINST THEM AND WHO, GOD'S TRUTH! WAS GREATEST NOT AS SUFFERER BUT AS FIGHTER. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and of adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. Today, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before - the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice. And as a man I have the duty to see to it that human society does not suffer the same catastrophic collapse as did the civilization of the ancient world some two thousand years ago - a civilization which was driven to its ruin through this same Jewish people.

Also St Augustine is amazing for obvious reasons it's just that his magnum opus is a thousand pages long. I'd start with something short and sweet like the letters of St Ignatius of Antioch

You could go with his stuff on psalms, I have not read those yet but I've been told they're good, you could also read his homilies on genesis aka the Hexameron, which are great, he navigates through all this greek philosphy on "what if day 3 REALLY means this science meme" And he gets through it really well and with much grace and explains the 7 days with so much detail I really learned a lot, also there's some writings by the desert fathers on him since he lived among them at some point
