In what way is it obsolete? It can be amended and adapted to suit new laws, but old laws don't suddenly stop working because of changes in technology.

If it had been written a thousand years before, you can bet they'd have intended for people to have access to swords and bows and halberds, and if it was written today, you can bet they'd have intended for people to have access to "assault" weapons, military vehicles, ordinance etc. Most canons used during the American war of independence were privately owned, and at the time canons were the heavy hitters of the battlefield, perhaps analogous to tanks and artillery of today.

My beef is with people who say "I dont think we really need to protect this one right that I don't use, let's just ignore what the law says." The precedent that sets should worry anybody with a brain, as other sections of the Constitution protect other rights that could be similarly ignored.

"Amending" the Constitution by just ignoring it would mean that, effectively, there is no basic law laying out how the government is formed and what it can and cannot do. In that situation, it can do whatever it likes. Conservatives, after 8 years of Obama, I think largely understand this, it surprises me that, in the Trump era, as frightened of him as the left is, they still want to set precedents that would remove limits on what he does and how much power he wields.
