That's because every PD in the country is under-staffed and they struggle to get cops as it is. If they started pushing strict fitness standards or firing officers, shit would get much worse.

I know those things, as I work with one of the biggest law enforcement agencies in the us. The problem is that their current hiring standards are quanity over quality which leads to tons of their officers utilizing sick pay/getting injured/etc which makes them effectively useless. Not to mention out of shape cops that cannot effectively perform their job.

quality over quanity hurts in the short term, but ensures that officers maintain job-readiness and actually would lead to more officers on duty and less taxpayer healthcare costs

My dept’s SWAT team trains closely with the FBI dudes. We get called out more because we deal with barricades and serve high risk warrants whereas they save the FBI dudes for really special occasions. FBI has more ‘prestige’ and cooler toys, but I’m average we have more practical real world experience.
