The Army High Level held dark meetings at the Military Club in Brasilia to discuss the possibility of what they will do if "things go on as Lula wants," which in this case means leaving him free to re-elect and create your beloved Socialist Dictatorship here.
youtube.com/watch?v=ENxREU_0Frs

Surprise also, Army General Commander, General Villas Boas used his Twitter account to express their rejection of the (((try))) leaving Lula free to do whatever he wants

"In this situation that lives in Brazil, it remains to ask the institutions and the people who are really thinking about the good of the country and of future generations and who is concerned only with personal interests?"
twitter.com/Gen_VillasBoas/status/981315174660485122

"I assure the Nation that the Brazilian Army believes that it shares the desire of all citizens to repudiate impunity and respect for the Constitution, social peace and democracy, and that it keeps an eye on its institutional missions."

Both Tweets have been extensively retweeted by many other Generals of all Armed Forces, indicating that the entire High Rank is "dissatisfied" with regard to the current situation of the Republic

>Brazil army commander 'repudiates impunity' on eve of Lula ruling

SAO PAULO (Reuters) - The commander of Brazil’s army ratcheted up tension on the eve of a Supreme Court decision on whether former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva should be allowed to exhaust his appeals process before being sent to jail for a corruption conviction.

General Eduardo Villas Boas wrote on his verified Twitter account on Tuesday evening that the army was “attentive to its institutional missions” and that the military, along with “all good citizens, repudiates impunity and respects the Constitution, social peace and democracy.”

The commander added that “in Brazil’s current situation, it is up to the institutions and citizens to ask who is really thinking of the well-being of our country and its future generations and who is only concerned about personal interests.”

Villas Boas did not elaborate. Calls to the army’s press office were not answered. Army representatives confirmed to Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo that the tweets were written by the general.

The comments came as thousands of Brazilians rallied in cities around Brazil to both support and decry Lula, who has said he wants to run for the presidency again in October. He leads polls by a wide margin, but may be barred from running after his bribery conviction was upheld on appeal.

The words of Villas Boas were splashed across the websites of Brazil’s major news outlets and drew support on Twitter from active army generals, but others bristled, warning of lessons learned from Brazil’s 1964-85 military dictatorship.

>Brazil army commander 'repudiates impunity' on eve of Lula ruling

“In a democracy, a military commander does not send a message to any power of the Republic,” wrote federal lawmaker Chico Alencar on Twitter. “2018 is not 1964!”

Lula’s detractors say he was the ringleader of a sprawling political bribery scheme that saw billions of dollars in kickbacks paid to politicians by the executives they appointed at state-run companies in return for lucrative contracts.

Supporters of Lula, who faces six separate graft trials in addition to the one in which he was already convicted, say he was wrongly found guilty by a partial judge who wants to block him from regaining the presidency.

Lula was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison in his first trial. He has asked the top court to allow him to remain free until his appeals are exhausted, despite a law allowing judges to imprison those found guilty of a crime once the ruling is upheld on appeal. Lula’s conviction was upheld in January.

Lula denies any wrongdoing and has accused Brazil’s judiciary of convicting him with scant proof to halt his political comeback. He has vowed that he will run for the presidency, even from a jail cell.

Any politician with a conviction upheld on appeal is barred from running for office for eight years in Brazil. It falls to the country’s top electoral court to make a ruling on whether Lula can run only after he officially registers as a candidate.

>Tense Brazil awaits Supreme Court ruling on Lula prison

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil’s Supreme Court on Wednesday will resume hearing former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s plea to remain out of prison while he appeals a corruption conviction, a case that has sharply divided the country, cast a shadow over this year’s presidential election and stirred rumblings in the army.

The leftist leader is still Brazil’s most popular politician despite his conviction and six separate pending corruption trials. He is the front-runner in all polling for the presidential election in October, though his conviction will likely bar him from running.

The Supreme Court is split on Lula’s request to be allowed to exhaust his appeals before beginning to serve a 12-year prison sentence for taking bribes, and a ruling is expected to hinge on the vote of just one of its 11 justices.

Lower court judges, the country’s top prosecutor and business groups have urged the court to abide by its own 2016 ruling that defendants can be jailed if a conviction is upheld on a first appeal, as Lula’s was earlier this year.

Before that ruling, appeals in Brazil’s complex and badly backlogged legal system could stretched out for several years, guaranteeing impunity for those rich enough to afford lawyers who could launch countless technical appeals.

Demonstrations for and against Lula snarled traffic in Brazil’s main cities on Tuesday and more gatherings were called for Wednesday in scores of cities. A court ruling is possible as early as Wednesday.

MILITARY WEIGHS IN
Brazilian society remains deeply divided one and a half years after President Dilma Rousseff was impeached and removed from office amid a corruption scandal and economic crisis.

Tensions increased late Tuesday when the commander of Brazil’s army weighed in with tweets calling on the court to stand guard against impunity. That rattled nerves across Brazil, which endured a 1964-85 military dictatorships and has a long history of coups interrupting democratic regimes.

General Eduardo Villas Boas wrote that the army along with “all good citizens, repudiates impunity and respects the Constitution, social peace and democracy.”

Villas Boas wrote that the army would stick to its constitutional role. But retired officers have warned that the military would not take lightly to the Supreme Court, which has rejected nearly all similar appeals in the past two years, ruling that Lula could remain free on appeal.

Army reserve general Luiz Lessa told the Estado de S.Paulo newspaper on Tuesday the military would have to intervene if Lula was allowed to become a candidate in the election. The army said that was his personal opinion.

A decision in favor of Lula would be a boost for the efforts of Brazil’s first working-class president to save his political career from the corruption scandals that have rocked the political establishment and especially his Workers Party, which held the presidency from 2003 until mid-2016.

Attached: Lulo jesus.jpg (480x478, 35K)

>cadê a tropa de macaco?

Attached: huehuehue.jpg (665x515, 71K)

But it would not free Lula to run for president in October. Under Brazil’s election laws, a conviction upheld on appeal bars a candidate from seeking elected office for eight years. Some exemptions have been made in the past, and the ultimate decision in Lula’s case would be made by the nation’s top electoral court if and when Lula official files to be a candidate.

Lula oversaw years of robust growth and falling inequality during a commodity boom and has said he wants to run again for the presidency in October.

His supporters see the conviction as a ploy to stop him returning to power. The Workers Party said the Army commander’s comments widely reported by Brazilian media had brought undue pressure to bear on the Supreme Court to rule against him.

Lula was found guilty in August and sentenced to 10 years in prison for accepting bribes worth 3.7 million reais ($1 million) from engineering firm OAS, the amount of money prosecutors said OAS spent refurbishing a beach apartment for Lula in return for his help winning contracts with state-run oil company Petroleo Brasileiro.

In January, an appeals court unanimously upheld his conviction and increased the prison sentence to 12 years.

Brazil’s top public prosecutor Raquel Dodge said on Tuesday that a Supreme Court decision allowing the exhaustion of all appeals before sentences can be executed was an “exaggeration” that would “annihilate” Brazil’s judicial system.

Boa Pergunta

>Brazil's rising tide of young conservatives seeks change

As an activist, she used to chain herself to fences in protest at chauvinism and sexual violence. She was, by her own admission, one of the most high-profile feminists in Brazil.

Sara is certainly striking. She has peroxide blonde hair, tattoos and a snappy dress sense.

But the thing that stands out the most is the badge she is wearing on her top. It is a picture of a skull with a knife through it and two guns.

"It's my favourite police organisation, Bope," she says, proudly referring to the logo of Brazil's Special Police Operations Battalion.

"They climb into the favelas and kill the bad guys. They put their lives at risk all the time to save the population of Rio."

It is not the sort of comment you would expect from a liberal activist. But Sara has had a political about-turn in recent years.

'Second chance'
Six years after having an abortion, Sara became pregnant again. Between the two pregnancies, she had regained her faith in the Catholic Church and her views on pregnancy - and politics - changed radically.

"I was so happy because I felt that God was giving me a second chance to be a mum," she recalls.

"I decided to come back to the Church and I think I can help women much more with conservative politics than feminism.

"[I spent] five years being the most popular feminist in Brazil and I did nothing for women," she says. "I just spent this time talking about abortion and legalising drugs and communism and I called that empowering myself."

Sara's U-turn is unusual but it mirrors to some extent what is happening in Brazil.

For more than 15 years, Brazil was governed by the left. Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva rose to power in 2003 promising change.

But with the country's most loved politician now facing 12 years in prison for corruption, and with his successor Dilma Rousseff impeached, people are disillusioned. The left did not deliver, so people want change.

'Brazilian Trump'
Sara's political idol is the far-right presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro.

Many refer to Mr Bolsonaro as the "Brazilian Trump", the two are very different men in very different countries but the similarities, or rather the set of circumstances that allow them to both exist, are uncanny.

Mr Bolsonaro brands himself as different from all the rest, a clean candidate amid a sea of corrupt politicians that has been the talk of Brazil for the past few years.

He has been accused of being homophobic and told a congresswoman she was not worth raping. He has ranted against minorities and has called for looser gun laws.

Jair Bolsonaro does not hold back.

But Sara will not have a bad word said against him. "I know it sounds really awkward, but really, if any woman could see Bolsonaro's policies, she would be in love, like me!"

She gushingly talks about one of his proposals - chemically castrating rapists.

"We have so many feminist congresswomen, why didn't they suggest this before?" she asks. "Bolsonaro did it."

lula arrested or military intervention? (you) decide

e ai vai prende?

Growing right
While many people wince at Jair Bolsonaro's politics, he remains a popular figure.

He is currently second in the presidential polls after former President Lula, who may not even be able to run now because of his corruption conviction.

While Mr Bolsonaro is at the extreme end of the right, conservative politics more generally are enjoying a comeback in Brazil - this in a country that until 1985 was ruled by a military dictatorship.

Right-wing pressure groups like the Free Brazil Movement, or MBL in Portuguese, are finding big audiences.

The MBL started its life on the streets, calling for then President Dilma Rousseff to be impeached.

It has since strengthened by going online. It has more than 2.5 million followers on Facebook who avidly watch their political videos criticising Brazil's left-wing politicians.

The MBL calls itself libertarian. It wants a freer country with a smaller state, its way. But its politics are hard to define because most members also hold conservative views on abortion and gun ownership.

"The problem is that some parts of Brazilian mentality, especially the left-wing mentality, say that the Conservatives are always totalitarians, always on the wrong side of things," says Pedro Ferreira, an MBL co-founder.

"Whenever they try to voice what they feel they are called fascists or Nazis." He says the internet has changed things. It has allowed people to find their own voice, to find their values.

"That is why we have Trump, that is why we have Brexit, that is why we have MBL. We have the common people's voice being heard," he says.

"That is scaring a lot of people but that is very democratic."

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS I CAN DREAM

Experts say Brazil's corruption scandals have been fertile ground for this kind of politics.

"You have a total mistrust of every kind of authority in Brazil, so for these movements that propagate hell, that show that everything is wrong, this kind of scenario is very useful," says Prof Rafael Alcadipani.

"They pick up very small things in reality and try to magnify them as if these were the biggest problems in Brazil."

Prof Alcadipani accuses movements like the MBL of propagating fake news. But it is an accusation the right makes against the left, too.

A wider vision of the right?
While the MBL essentially remains a movement, some of its members have entered politics on other parties' tickets.

Twenty-one-year-old Fernando Holiday may be one of the MBL's leading figures but he ran for and won a seat as city councillor in São Paulo for the Democrats party.

An unusual poster boy for conservatism, he comes from a poor family and is gay.

He thinks young Brazilians had, until recently, become disengaged with politics.

"The right became synonymous with more conservative politics, irrelevant for minorities," he says.

"It also became associated with authoritarian, even nostalgic feelings about the dictatorship, like Bolsonaro."

"But I think we bring a wider vision of what the right is," he explains. "Not everything fits into a standard box and is determined by rigid rules."

the problem is what this "first step" represents against the corruptiors, if he walks free every instance of our judiciary system that flawlessly condemned him for his crimes will be a joke and we will literally NEED someone (like the army) to blow shit up and start anew..

He got caught. Period. He was sentenced to jail, twice, but is getting bailed out by the Supreme Court, more than half of which are completely incapable idiots who Lula himself nominated.
Many politicians and many businessman have gone to jail already, Sergio Cabral, Eduador Cunha, Marcelo Odebrecht, etc., they are all going to be free thanks to this bullshit.

Brasília needs to be nuked.

Indeed

Attached: Awoo Lewd PSL 2.png (900x900, 278K)

He made Brazil the LATAM leader country. that's not free.

You might not agree with his foreign policies and regard them against your interests, even as a traitor.

But a lot of people chose him, that's the democratic game. suck it up. The alternative is worse.

I don't say he shouldn't be jailed. But it looks like you want him jailed so he can't win. It doesn't matter why you're jailing him.

Otherwise you would prosecute with the same tenacity your other cooks you have as politicians.

He didn't make SHIT, he's a retard, he handed the economy to Henrique Meirelles, former president of BostonBank, who you would certainly call "neoliberal", was called a traitor by all the leftists in the country, and rode on the success achieved by Meirelles.

>But it looks like you want him jailed so he can't win
nigger, do you read the part where he stole trillions of taxpayers' money to give away to his communist buddies?

And we have china to thank that we're not venezuela-tier right now thanks to lula/dilma

Kek.

I want a Brazil isolated from Latin America.
All Brazilian economic decisions today pass through Mercosur, which means that we are anchored to the Continent.

Not to mention Lula just took the "Wave" of Oil BOOM when he took over.
As for the Economy, it was the Monetary God Henrique Meirelles who saved the country, but a young lady called Dilma destroyed all his work of reeguer the Macroeconomic Tripod

Nothing is gonna happen, feijoada. The STF are a bunch of cowardly faggots, they'll never have the balls to convict someone as powerful as Lula.

Will today be a good day?

If he doesn'1t go to jail, nobody else will, no Temer, no Aécio, nobody, they are all in favour of Lula today in this judgment. This is what is being decided here. He was already sentenced by two courts and still is getting bailed out. Condemned criminals can't run for an election, that's absolutely retarded.

I don't. If Lula gets free, and the military intervenes, you can kiss your ass goodbye to ever repealing the Disarmament Statute.

>Will today be a good day?

It depends on what the STF wants.

Anyway, or the Bearded Frog goes to jail or have a Military Coup.

>"What a strange way to pack toilet paper"
