The hyperspecialization of academia has helped the leftists take hold. Back in the day an intellectual would have well-rounded knowledge of many subjects. He could be spending his time primarily researching a specific problem in calculus, but still maintain a respected opinion on social science and literature related debates.

Now our math professors think smaller, these days a math professor would feel uncomfortable giving an academic opinion on a math question outside their primary focus, let alone a completely different academic subject like sociology.

I went to a subsidiary of A&M in northeast Texas, and literally had 2 right-leaning ancap professors, and several right-wingers.

The Jr. college economics professor was an ancap, and he specifically told the class that socialists and commies would get BTFO'd by the course.

Humanities are so subjective in how research in to them is done. Someone's PhD thesis in those fields is literally their opinion. Science is somewhat subjective too. However, there are facts involved in informing the decision making processes. Anyone truly intelligent leaves after grad school.
