Four men have been arrested after a teenager told police she had been raped.
Police were called to Front Street in Whickham, Gateshead, at around 8.30am on Thursday where an 18-year-old woman was in a “distressed state”.
The woman told police she had been out in Newcastle the night before and had come back to a property on Front Street where she was raped.
An investigation has been launched by police and four men have now been arrested on suspicion of rape.
They remain in police custody and are being questioned by officers.
Police officers have been in the Front Street area since the alleged sex attack was reported.
The woman is receiving specialist support from officers.
