Look at what the heroic Allies did with Mussolini. The Allies and Soviets were so infamous for how they treated prisoners that Goebbels decided to kill his children by cyanide poisoning IIRC rather than let them be captured.
Let that sink in. Goebbels mercy killed his entire family, wife and six young children, rather than let them be taken prisoner in Allied or Soviet hands. That's the wartime reputation of the "heroes" of WW2.

It is very likely Hitler and Ava killed their doubles and escaped. The bodies found by the allies had already been burned and purposely disfigured by the occupying German soldiers of the bunker before the allies got there. Also, the body doubles were confirmed by the Germans to have been there but were said to have “escaped” before the allies came. The allies didn’t really pursue hitler because him being dead in the eyes of the world fit their purposes whether it was true or not.

It's better for him to write the final page of his life in the bunker than to have the last images of Hitler be a broken, disheveled man being walked to the gallows.
