I am still playing regulary Age of Empires 2 since nearly 20 years the vidya with which I grew up and the only one that I play
everything else is shit and degenerated

I didn't mention any of those things, nor am I talking about media preferences. I'm taking about repetitive, withdrawn behaviors that only appeal to spergs. One's social abilities and accomplishments are inversely proportional to the amount of time spent playing vidya or watching anime, particularly at critical ages where social skills need to be developed or else it's nearly impossible later.

I don't think that's it though user... Most of the people (like you've said, mainly boys) getting into vidya nowadays have no comparison to how it used to be, so of course they're going to eat it up. But it's really not anywhere near where it used to be. Of course you're free to believe that it's nostalgia glasses and I'm just getting old and grumpy, you may even be partially right, but it doesn't fully look like that from my perspective. Because to me it feels like the whole industry got hijacked by the people who don't give a single shit about it.

If you spend too much time in any solitary pursuits your social skills will atrophy. Video games and anime are not alone in this.

Of course it doesn't come naturally. Speech is not an instinctive ability. It is a leaned one.

It's escapism. You play video-games to immerse yourself in a world you find more appealing than your own and you are pouring time, effort and devotion into learning to win at an abstract set of rules which could be put into learning something useful with real-life applicability.

Imagine if instead of parkouring as the prince of persia you learned how to parkour in real life, instead of playing at being a survivalist you actually learned real-life bushcraft, instead of wanting to immerse yourself in a beautiful virtual landscape researched what beautiful landscapes there are in your local area you ought to visit.

I'll give you a personal example: One of my favourite games as a teen was a hack and slash fantasy adventure called Sacred.
I stopped playing around age 18 and tried again at age 23.
I could not get into it because watching my avatar onscreen leveling up and swinging his weapons did not seem anywhere near as fulfilling as the prospect of getting fit and handling melee weapons myself.

Also: If you are european you have no excuse LARPing as an explorer online. The country you live in is jam-packed with neat landscapes, towns and histories to explore, you'd probably be flabbergasted with the shit that currently exists within a couple hour's drive of where you live. Fuck learning the fictional history of Tamriel, how about catching up on the history of the city you are currently living in?
That badass could be you if you actually invested the time doing the real-life things and looking back it will be no contest what will have been a worthwhile endeavour and what will have been time sunk into meaninglesness.
