So Jow Forums with rising tensions, and the affordability (40k+ for a good one) of survival shelters. Should I get one? I've got the income to be able to pay for one relatively quickly and I could even live in it daily. It is worth it? They're even cheaper than regular homes and apartments when you divvy the price out between a couple years. Is it worth it Jow Forums?
>TL;DR To buy or not to buy a survival shelter for security and daily life
Is bunker life the way Jow Forums?

>pay 40k to live in a drainpipe and still die in a nuclear exchange.
let me think about this for a while...
You think a country is going to actively target some random dudes bunker? Its fallout resistant. Not nuke resistant.
The only reason to even bother is if you live out in rural areas and can afford to stock it properly with food, water, medicine, sanitation, air, and electricity. If you don't go top-dollar and go all out, you're just going to die in a cuckbox. A fuckload of shysty people make tons of dosh selling "survival bunkers" to morons that would absolutely get you killed. I saw one where some guy had a bunker installed under his garage. It's like, wow wonderful, nobody will know it's here. And then when you house gets blown down, you'll never be able to open the trap door from under all the rubble and you'll be stuck down there to starve or suffocate slowly.
So let's clarify this a bit more. Spend 40k+ to live in a drainpipe in the middle of buttfuck nowhere to survive long enough to see a post-apocalyptic hellscape.
get a homestead and a bunker underneath and live in both, also grow food in both, perfect life.
Well not saying I have to stop at 40k my max budget is 250k
Sounds kind of peaceful
All immediate areas will be depopulated, meaning free land. The trade-off is that you now need to scour about 2-6 inches of soil off the top so you can begin growing your own food. Otherwise you'll be ingesting veggies with lots of radioactive byproducts.
fallout means you're going to be living off of solyent produced under UV in your drainpipe and you'll need to power your electrical generator by burning the corpses of your loved ones.
The issues in Bongland have completely devoided all gimmers of hope in you hasn't it?
That's fine, but make sure you actually tour one of the ones the builders previously made before you sign a dotted line. And DON'T BUILT IT IN YOUR HOUSE FFS. Put it outside, in the ground, far enough away that trees and other bullshit can't land on the hatch, while still being obscure enough your neighbors won't know what you've got. The most clever one I've seen had a hatch made of local turf.
How will you:
1. Power it?
2. Provide potable water to it?
3. Remove waste from it?
You can buy cold war bunkers fairly cheap in Sweden (all still fully functional).
"The Road" is not real life, by the way. It's entirely possible to store several years worth of food and water, and gather electricity by wind or solar.
It really depends on where you live. If your in the middle of nowhere there's no point as your area isn't going to get nuked. If you live somewhere ornear somewhere that'll be targeted then its not a bad investment. Mostly bunkers are to survive the initial attack and the fallout afterwards. It's not something you'll nessacerlly have to live in.
If the internet line is good, all's good
1. Solar and/or ethanol generator with outside exhaust pipe
2. Well and rain water with purification tablets if needed. Hoping for a 100 gallon drum for storage.
3. Honeslty thats my biggest question right now, thinking some sort of septic flow-off but it might pollute the well water. Would consider hooking it, with help from my state, up to a sewage drain pipe. Let them take care of it.
you can still have it built below your house so to be able to access it fast, and possibly use it as a panic room if need be
then also link it to a tunnel exiting further from your house and trees, so you're not trapped in case of disaster
best of both worlds, imho
>Not digging your own custom bunker so as to be completely off the record
Why do you say it like it is a bad thing?
Bunkers are comfy but you need a library of movies and games you can play offline when society seizes to exist as we know it.
Also say goodbye to this place.
Dude that actually sounds comfy af, all you need after that is a supply of hash and a library of books and you'll never need to leave.
I plan on living around the Midwest sort of close to a bigger capital city for access to resources like untapped food and water sources, gas from abandoned cars would help too.
I think I'd be in the dark for a while if a war took place but beforehand i'd have it hooked up
This
I'd be sure to build up a collection of things, looking to store media on my own local data server. Would miss Jow Forums though.
Other way around buddy, if you live in a big city you are fucked either way unless you have a state of the art super bunker. If you live outside the city the bunker will provide temporary shelter to survive the fallout, as well as a future safe-haven.
But then you'd have to live in Sweden. I'd rather die from nukes.
Gas expires, but if properly stored in airtight container it may last up to 2 years
Same here desu.
it lasts a lot longer with the proper additives
>I saw one where some guy had a bunker installed under his garage. It's like, wow wonderful, nobody will know it's here. And then when you house gets blown down, you'll never be able to open the trap door from under all the rubble and you'll be stuck down there to starve or suffocate slowly.
it's just a cover for getting a sex dungeon without having to build one yourself in secret
It’s a LARP slide thread. Just look up what radioactive air filters cost for one of these.
I suppose a small gym would be a bad idea as far as conserving energy/calories goes..
Yeah I plan on adding gas storage additives
It's not a LARP slide thread, it's a legitimate discussion. Jow Forums has been lacking in actual discussions for a while.
Why go this route? Have you priced using conex and shockcrete?
>Implying its gonna end in Nuclear Fire
Its more likely that the kikes will overload the economy with shitskin leaches and bad debt schemes and finally crash it with no survivors.
Fuck that, go out in a blaze of glory, guns ablazin. Don’t be a pussy, user.
We live in a remote location that you’d be hard pressed to find unless you went down what looks like a drive to a business that’s closed down, and even then our home sits a mile behind that. It’s not visible from the road, or the highway so if it comes to scavengers rooting around, we’ll pick them off before they even get close to the house.
In the event of a nuclear war, fuck that, I DO NOT WANT TO LIVE THROUGH IT. I’d rather die a fiery death than to try and survive radiation fallout, contamination, and the inevitable painful death that will surely follow. Even if there is such a thing as an air tight location, confined to a fucking shipping container for years does not sound like survival.
This user gets it.
Now add in your family members who you’ll want to murder inside of a week. Please, where do I sign up?
Hard. Pass.
I have one of these. Literally cost me nothing. I dug at night and free time, and the rest is built from scraps and materials I found in many different places. It all took me about 389 months to finish, and I did this alone, without any help.
Yep
HIDING IN A CAVE WONT SAVE YOU FROM me...
I will hide you regardless of your hiding places and your guns...be very afraid my cave dwelling crybaby soyboy
JFC so for 40k I have to survive the nuclear blast and then shuffle my ass into a cube not suitable for a fucking dog house, so I can want to off myself after dealing with my family for two days?
Please, where do I sign????
Complete Economic collapse will always be followed violence. On the plus side just prior when countries can no longer maintain debt there is usually war.
Planning a bunker or fortified positions for all manner of disasters is a good bet. Prepping in general is a good idea. Living in socal during the fires in 03 and 09 having only started prepping at the time really reenforced the idea this is a good plan of attack. Power was out for over a week, water was shut off for 5 days. Having made provisions really took a load off my mind, my Family was dependent on no one. We even had enough to help others out. Everyone should prep for emergencies, even if only for minor disasters.
Great idea though considering that your lid may get popped any day by herds of marauding destroyers.
add and I promise WE will take it from you
even if you did that there would still be constant fallout
*sigh*
Give me a few days alone with them in a giant tuna can, I’m sure I’d be game shortly.
The obvious answer we needed.
Haven't looked into it yet.
Aren't we all a little interested in seeing whats next? What if we could finally start an ethnostate from the ashes. Gotta admit that'd be pretty cool
It would just be me, nobody else. Maybe a friend if I absolutely had a good connection with them beforehand.
You're a man of a lot of free time
You guys would kill each other long before nuclear fallout would.
i call bullshit
No there wouldn't, that a fun misconception portrayed by the media
2 weeks tops
This. The fallout would dissapate within a month. The effects would last longer however such as mutations and residence in organic material.
WIND PICKS IT UP AGIN
We have lotsa bunkers. Good ones too. But they are not more than storage spaces at this point. I do have a safe with a gun in my part of the bunker in the basement of our apartment complex
Check out my serious prepping videos:
The future belongs to those that show up.
>i call bullshit
Which part? I've moved roughly 45,000 metric tons of soil using only a shovel and a wheelbarrow, I made myself from old bathtub and bicycle.
It can be done. You just have to move your ass outside.
you will be breathing radioactive dust for years, it will evaporate and rain back down on you
the particles in the atmosphere will start to fall ,
That American dude is right
>You guys
you racist
then install a jack..
I can see you as a next YouTube shooter. They definitely relegate your videos. Only 10 views, that sucks. You have to do something about it.
no, you probably fantasy about it and got confused between a reactor melt down scenario over a nuclear weapon
>Aren't we all a little interested in seeing whats next? What if we could finally start an ethnostate from the ashes. Gotta admit that'd be pretty cool
Really, really not. Besides, the ghettos are like cockroach motels, you know that faggotry will survive and begin looting within 5 minutes. I have no desire to watch people offing each other over a can of dog food.
>It would just be me, nobody else. Maybe a friend if I absolutely had a good connection with them beforehand.
So you’re telling me to keep it secret and not tell the wife and kids? Hmmmm that could be an idea...... lulz there’s no way I could do it tho, and I’d want to murder them all in a very short period.
No internet, only us and our thoughts? We did that last year actually, went to a cabin in Montana and we shut off all cellular devices to enjoy the scenery, and just be still; sort of a detox for the mind. We had a great time and survived a week without any major blowups or death. But it was also a 3-bedroom cabin, with soaring views and wildlife everywhere you looked.
However, the thought of being confined to a metal contraption underground makes me claustrophobic just thinking about it.
So live out my days with The Walking Dead? SIGN ME UP.
Dude... What?
Look into conex conversions. With the proper application of concrete and a depth of more than 2 meters all you have to spend a ton of money on is a door that can handle a large over pressure wave.
Protip find the door (or preferably doors) and design around them. For the door you can use blast doors though your entrance won't be easy to conceal or hatch systems easier to conceal but limits the size of what you can bring in and out.
*specist
>living in a cuck bunker
Here is a link to a non-meme guide to surviving a nuclear war, download it now before the internet goes down:
oism.org
Worth getting if only for the home-made fallout meter plans
Nah. The alpha and beta particles will be almost entirely harmless after a month, with a simple air filter it will be fine after that month, the top soil will be non radioactive but dead, but not harmful.
t. nuke reactor worker.
I've just bought a haul of old shipping containers for cheap. I'm currently digging a pit for them, but it's still not deep enough. I need around 15 ft minimum, better 20. That's a lot of dirt to move.
Aka conex
The reactor meltdown is a billion times worse
Because it creates corium
Atomic weapons break down most of their heavy metals during the explosion
If it's a ground based detonation, it will throw radioactive particules into the air
If it's an air burst, which most new ones are designed to be: very little fallout
Everybody's still fucked though
retarded
they're not made to withstand the dirt weight
Plus you gotta worry about ground water
I also have some heavy h-beams that get welded into a cage around the containers. I'm also planning to pour a massive concrete slab over the structure. Who's the retard now? :)
you wasted 32 years of your life in that thing ?
you must be really hoping for a nuclear apocalypse
If you reinforce the top with lead plate you won't have to bury it as deep
And the dirt weight won't collapse it
Secondary exit tunnel?
lol how will you survive without gibs
I gotta say it looks pretty comfy. If I could have my computer in my bunker that would be pretty dope. I would live there even when there wasn't a risk of nuclear genocide.
the one burying himself in something that still might rust
Let's get honest with each other. You can't afford it.
It's a fallout shelter m8, not my permanent new address. I'm fucking off ASAP after the dust has settled.
Can't call that life, can you?
>I could even live in it daily.
If this was an option I'd say go for it although are you sure its legal?
only if you don't bring a butter knoife in there
How to provide electricity to a bunker?
Sort of correct. Steel plates between the ribs will give way as they rust out. If you are planning on using these for a bunker a cage needs to be constructed and high pressure concrete used to reenforce and protect the metal from corrosion. You can't just bury them in the ground. Though initially they will hold but that will only be temporary.
You need to seal the outside of the container before you concrete it in. Have fun getting the bottom. Pumps are a must regardless.
A slab on the ground over the structure or are you encasing the entire thing? If not will collapse faster.
>Lead plate
You cannot reenforce shit with lead it is not a good structural component and is heavier than dirt.
If you plan to use lead use sheeting they use for x-ray rooms. Easy to source and can also be used to make bullets if your desperate.
This for all of the above.
It’s technically a bin tho, right?
only if it's loicensed to be so
god bunkers are so fucking comfy
People always say this but don't pretend you don't have a survival instinct
>Its fallout resistant.
I'm pretty sure this is a bullshit claim. If that thing is in range of the fallout, you're gunna die.
Battery banks, usually deep cycle. Keep spare parts for service. Wind turbine for primary, possibly solar. Small generator for back up but you need exhaust ported outside. Problems with EMP for anything electrical. Can remedy with a Faraday Cage.
The key is energy efficiency, your largest load in any bunker will be ventilation. Especially if you're running scrubbers or air treatment of any kind. That will put you in excess of 2kwh peak load, especially if you don't use CO2 and CO sensors in your controls system and rely only on min air changes. Which EMP will take out unless you harden the bunker. Plus side is you fall asleep and die.
