I don't think there's much of a difference insofar as the real differentiation is between the kids who did the bare minimum and just showed up to class versus those who developed relationships with their professors, got internships, networked, etc.

I fell for the trade meme, I was only an apprentice but the money was GOOD, but the hours were horrific. 60 hours a week was the norm, some weeks up to 80 hours. Driving all around the state of florida in a white van doing installs. Then come back to the office, get in my car and drive 1 hour back on the highway home. I only lasted a month, I cannot imagine living that type of life unless I absolutely needed money because I had kids or something.

Trades are honest work, and they are important to society. However, it is surely not easy money, it's hard grueling work which often takes you from your family. If you have the brains, put in the effort to become an engineer or doctor if you want to make money. If you don't think you can excel at that academic level, you better be ready to work hard as a tradesmen.
I'm surely not against trades but in Canada there is about to be four qualified workers for every job opening because of the big rush into trades...It's not some easy cash cow
Most trades avg $35-50 hr in Ft McMurray Camp jobs. 150-200k / year during good times is not uncommon but prices of homes etc are much higher
