They're not dumb. They know that over 50% of their citizens are either dumb or apolitical. They know exactly what they're doing and that it was a false flag (or just pretty video without the attack taking place).
Concerning the attack itself, if it's the same kind that happened last year but with twice as missiles used and no follow ups, then whatever. It should give points to Trump for his internal battle, and there will be no regime changes or significant losses for Syrian army.
