Now, the officers doing the investigation have a video that I don't have access to, so I can't definitively say what exactly happened. That said, claiming they have the video and allowing the perpetrator and his family members to tell more and more 'stories' would not be a horrible tactic. It's not just you. Fewer and fewer people know their neighbors. Ironically, if your house gets burglarized, the first people you should look at are your neighbors. It's what I do for a burglary call. I look for anyone I can see and use that as an excuse to start asking about neighbors. As long as I can create a nice chain of this person identified that one, I can ask questions for the half hour it takes me to figure out which neighbor did it. ;)
