I often find that it is better to be unempathetic when not talking with others I am not significantly close to, one reason for which is the fact that being emotionally affected by things like dogs being tortured is really unpleasant. I imagine most of us agree that it is upsetting to see what asians do to dogs, it upsets us, it makes us feel bad, yet it has no other effect on us.
That’s not to say that being soulless is all good though, suicide rates in asia are incredibly high even in the very much first world countries like japan. I don’t think anyone should try to emulate asians to match their productivity, but no one should dismiss them for being soulless. If nothing else, we should try to learn more about them, in the same way a military scientist tries to learn more about enemy weaponry.
