The earth is round.
Most of our understanding of geology and natural history in some way relies upon that principle. For example, the earth's magnetic fields.
The earth's magnetic field is driven by the spinning of the molten metals in the earth's core. Magnetic fields operate on a radius. The only way for the different parts of the earth to have approximately the same influence under the earth's magnetism (Which is does, and that can be shown with any 30 cent compass) is for the surface to be roughly the same distance from the core at all points. That is impossible with a flat earth.

In the fall of 1901 J.B. Watson, Chief Engineer at the Tamarack copper mine (S. of Calumet, Mich.) suspended 4250 foot long plumb lines down mine shafts. Measurements showed that the plumb lines were farther apart at the bottom than at the top, contrary to expectations.
“Contrary to expectations” is the understatement of our age. A hanging plumb line is at a precise right angle from the horizontal and shows a builder the true vertical for the place where he wants to build a wall. The true vertical always points to the center of gravity which means a plumb line also does the same. Why 100 km?
We are told this is so because those few air molecules present at this altitude (1/2,200,000 of the air at sea level) are compressed against the hull due to the shuttle’s hypersonic speed (30,000 km/h). These compressed molecules accumulate and can’t get away causing excess pressure and therefore heat; but there is hardly any air up there at 100 km. The shuttle should heat up at a much, much lower altitude where there is a lot more gas to get in the way… and yet it does not.
For this kind of temperature to occur at 100 km, there must be a lot of something up there to create this amount of friction; and glass fits the bill perfectly… or you can believe the steel-melting temperatures of the shuttle occur because of the compression of a few molecules of air trapped in the shuttle’s shock wave.

Why over 1650 °C?
At what temperature does glass (silicon dioxide) melt? You guessed it… 1600 °C. This is why the underbelly of the space shuttle has to reach 1650 °C in order to melt the glass underneath, so it can fall through and re-enter. If the angle of the shuttle is too shallow, it bounces off the “atmosphere” (read glass) like a skipping stone and goes back into space, which is called skip re-entry.
The basic concept is to ‘clip’ the atmosphere at such an angle that the craft is ‘pushed’ back out into space, conceptually similar to a pebble skipping across the surface of a lake. Each time, the craft’s velocity is reduced so that it can eventually drop into the atmosphere at a low suborbital velocity.
There is supposedly nothing up there for the shuttle to “skip” against… unless of course there is glass in the sky. If the re-entry angle is too steep, it could cause too much stress on the brittle heat-resistant ceramic tiles, possibly breaking a few of them, which would be fatal.

1) if the earth rotates at a speed of 460 meters per second how come if you jump up you land in the same place instead of a few hundred yards away?

The “primitive” man idea is ruled out because Concave Earth Theory (CET) is counter-intuitive. Previous to early 1600 AD only Plato believed that we lived inside a concave Earth (Phædo). This latter model is also intuitive, as the heavens look to be rotating around the Earth.
If CET was suddenly discovered by a group of cartographers around 1600 AD, was it discovered through experiment or through a new religion/philosophy? Science was extremely fledgling if non-existent in 1600 AD; although mankind may have been able to have reproduced something akin to the 1897 rectilinear experiment privately. The Rosicrucians for example were rumored to be scientifically far ahead of their time in the 1600s. What new philosophy or religion could have sprung up around 1600 AD to influence cartographers to produce cavity maps? At this time, neither religion nor experiment purporting Earth’s concavity is documented anywhere that I know of, but that is not to say these documents could perhaps exist or that the experiments were either deliberately not documented (private), or the documents have been lost.
Either way, these maps aren’t supposed to exist within the official history of cosmology… yet they do. We are told the cosmological transition is from geocentric convex in the Middle Ages to heliocentric convex in the enlightenment era until today. All ancient world “globe” maps should therefore be convex, yet they are nearly all concave. Something is glaring missing from history.

These marks are now used as a control for the future measurements.

Take a piece of paper and poke two equal length rods through it, then shine a light on the paper. If the paper is flat the rods will cast equal shadows, but if the paper is curved, the shadows are different lengths. The latter observation is how you can tell what distance you are from the equator.
