Apartheid did not begin until 1948 or 1949. Contrary to pol's POV that apartheid began in the 1600s.
Interracial marriage and sex were legal in South Africa until 1950, a year after apartheid began. And actually the ban on interracial marriages was lifted in 1986, before apartheid even ended. Basically miscegenation has only been banned for 36 years of South Africa's whole history.
They never frowned on miscegenation as much as Americans did. In America miscegenation was legal until 3 or 4 years after the Civil Rights Act.

I've seen it claimed that they descend mostly from about 70 original settlers. IDK how true this really is. Marrying somebody who you share a common ancestor with in the 1600s doesn't really make you inbred anyway. My parents are 7th-10th cousins and I think that's pretty typical for marriage partners. Your marriage partner usually comes from a similar geographic area, ethnic group and social class as you which makes it likely that many marriage partners are distant cousins.
I care far more about their non-white genes than how inbred they are.
