Thats not it at all. It was an amphibious landing in an area that would make an invincible beachhead. Constant shore bombardment and air bombardment the entire time, with the invasion being done at low tide so the counters to our landing craft became cover for the troops.
The majority of the artillery in the rear was destroyed by paratroopers and special forces raiders, the Germans took most of their troops away to a fake landing site, and the only real failure of the day was the DD tanks landing in the wrong area or sinking in 6 foot waves (having been designed for 1 foot waves kek). Any American media and movies focus on Omaha beach (like saving private Ryan) where they lost all of their armor support.
The image of D-Day just being omaha beach is just as much of a meme as the image of Russians only using human waves and not having enough guns for their troops.
