Connecticut didn't even make their own constitution until way later on and just used a slightly changed version of their British charter that had the church as a state religion. Aside from that despite Jefferson and Madison making it clear what the first amendment met their opponents fought it and kept them from enforcing it better because there was accusations of them trying to kill Christianity which is completely laughable.
