Heres the biggest piece I can give you as someone who is out now. Do what I did and not what my peers and what your peers are going to do.

Spend fucking NO money. Mother fuckers get in and buy a brand fucking new truck off the lot, they blow money on parties or clubs or strippers. Its fucking retarded, Its a way to alleviate the boredom, but seriously don't fall for it. You live like a fucking monk, use all free shit you can from your base. Eat every meal at the mess except for every second friday go out and have a nice meal somewhere and 1-3 drinks. You do this, and you will come out with a nice chunk of money, no debt, immediately use your bennies to go to community college for that extra money. Another good way to get some extra dosh is, if you're based near where you live (if you lived with your parents) go back and live with them, but claim off base housing allowance if your eligible. Its what I did.

I got out, went right into college for a business admin degree, lived with my folks the entire time. Finished up, got hired by the local police department because they suck mil dick like no one else, used my savings to buy a house. Im 27, own my own farmhouse in a beautiful rural area, make 55k a year as a dick beating police officer literally writing the occasional ticket and stopping Cletus and John for drunk driving.

Serve on a Marine MEU if you wanna get thrown into a dumb situation before everyone else.

Finished, went to RIP que, which was apparently 3 months of waiting so I dropped out when I got there. Waited for another month. Went to station. Sept 11th happened 3 months later.
