I know one of the people arrested last month in this. Just found out about it last night. These two had almost 50 pounds of hash oil and over 1,000 pounds of weed. I don't know how they didn't expect to get caught but the guy was always a short-cutter in life, so it was probably inevitable that he would end up in jail for something eventually. He already did two years for something else; I forget what for. I think the fact that he was arrested in California makes a big difference as to what sentence he will get; if this were Alabama it would be life no doubt. I did some research and it seems the maximum for chemically manufacturing hash oil is 7 years and a measly $50k fine (I say measly because the weed alone is probably worth millions). Do you guys think he'll actually get only 7 years for something like this? Do judges have the discretion to give a sentence greater than the legally set maximum?

I have to disagree with you there (assuming that was sarcasm). I'm bipolar and didn't know it, and smoking weed brought on acute psychotic episodes, one of which brought me to almost jumping in front of a car because I thought everyone was a hallucination and I was infinitely alone. Weird shit. The point is, I didn't know I was bipolar so weed was dangerous to me. I've been on antipsychotics for three and a half years now because of it and developed akathisia from those antipsychotics, which was torture in the beginning and has been slowly going away ever since. I know it's the medication's fault for the akathisia, but none of this would have happened had I not smoked. It's a rare case, but weed is a mild hallucinogen and I believe any hallucinogen can trigger psychosis in the rare minority who has a predisposition to it. Those people don't always know they have a predisposition, though.
