I have to read more into amorphous materials, but I do know that if you scatter them as particles within a crystalline material, you can increase the toughness of the overall material through dislocation pinning. That being said, it isn't unique to graphene; you can use Sodium atoms, or any sort of particle that warps the lattice. Thus for crystalline materials, using carbon nanotubes by itself has no advantage, just hype. But for glasses, I'd have to read more into it because their properties are more different than that of crystalline materials.
