No this is correct. Going back far enough I see the issue in H. sapiens having been adapted as a pack hunter in a rather 'mild' environment. This alleviated the pressure on the individual to 'keep an edge' to successfully reproduce. At least that is my theory right now ...

You see, I see some strange adaption having happened in that regard. First agriculture required adherence to societal norms to function since the first systems were heavily prone to disturbances ... and these often led to mass starvation. But larger societies made policing every individual more and more impossible compared to a small tribal group. And those groups who failed at this policing most likely hampered their own reproductive success in the long run, ending their genetic lineage.
Now imagine a group with a certain tendency to develop 'paranoid' thoughts of being watched by some unseen agency ... what agency you ask? The 'all-seeing eye of God' as I call it. This was the reason for religion ... self policing of the population. It became successful and spread like crazy in the agriculturalist societies, later taking on other functions in social cohesion.

i'll see how far i can take it. have you read John Glubb's The Fate of Empires? It's extremely short (only around 20 pages) and basically has a very similar conclusion as Spengler on the historic aspect.
