I'm not a conspiracyfag, but if I recall correctly, Jow Forums used to have a SSL certificate and it doesn't anymore. For those of you who don't know, having a SSL certificate means that the connection between the web browser and the server is secure. As in, the data sent and received is encrypted and impossible to tamper with. Nowadays it's pretty uncommon for a site of this magnitude to run without HTTPS, when most browsers even discourage users to access "unsecure" sites and search indexes encourage owners to enable it. This and the (justified) use of reCAPTCHA for all posts, could mean that yes, Jow Forums could not be that difficult to surveille. That, of course, aside from the data mining and sentiment analysis opportunities this site provides.
tl;dr: what the fuck happened to the HTTPS on Jow Forums?
Yes. With https your ISP could tell you were visiting Jow Forums but not much else. Without https they can see what threads you visit, data you POST (new threads, replies), and more. Deep state probably wants to track and flag anons after trump's election proved how influential this site is.
Christopher King
Download extension: Https Everywhere Enable it and block all unencrypted requests.
BUMP. I was not secure connected either, please lurking anons install this extension (it works instantly) and bump the thread. The deep state can suck my ass.
Xavier Sanders
Me either. Got the extension installed within seconds. Looks like it's working well. Thanks anons.
you get a 1 because you are at least using firefox

>Is Jow Forums under surveillance? Yes, it has been for years.
William Gray
Upper right corner there are settings you can do a lot there including enabling https. Alsoe there’s an extension for automatic https for browsers on pc. It’s probably some configuration error and the admin is lazy.

> sold by Moot to unknown entities for untold sums before getting a job at Google If you consider ANYTHING you do on Jow Forums secure then you are nothing but a super mega moron.
Luis Reed
the old math it's 3 and with whatever new shit they teach it's 9..
government agencies already have access to the database. this is why boards freeze when someone posts some illegal shit. they have to get a snapshot of the board, user info, write up a report, and issue a response if necessary. this info if traded with other countries if they have something we want or need as well.
when all the major networks decided to spam Jow Forums's existence to the entire world was 2007ish
Bentley White
Oh fuck, I didn't know there's https on Jow Forums. fuck! Why does Jow Forums's Authoritative NS doesn't send me to https? fucking fag

federal agent here. The https made it really hard for us to do close quarter surveillance on some of your homes. So we had to make sure the website stopped with the https. Of course we are still datamining you and combining all your details here with your google/facebook profile data. Please keep providing us further information on our other survey threads. Thank you in advance.

I like stability over dicking around all day with the machine to make it work, just like with my ipad. Have minimal software on it and it just works. I reset it after major updates and it works very smooth this way.
Logan Edwards
128bit encryption can be bruteforced pretty easy with some ssl types. Also there’s triple handshake even for elliptic curve.

>Is Jow Forums under surveillance? yes. The entire internet is under surveillance.
Josiah Bailey
This.
/b/ was a pedo safe haven for years, and mods leaked sometimes in 2007/2008. 4chin was a one man operation running at a loss, and moot was dronning in subpoenas for IPs of people posting CP.
So one or two mods on the IRC leaked that moot had the option between shutting down Jow Forums entirely, or give the FBI direct access to the servers so that they could effectively combat all the CP distribution, which is why /b/ went from 500 CP threads a day to 1 or 2 at most in less than a year.
Nobody knows if they still have access, especially since Hiroshimoot isn't a US citizen, but it sure as fuck wouldn't surprise me if they did.
Brayden Perry
show your real flag
Robert Brooks
This is also why there haven't been any mods on the IRC who had mod powers on /b/ since 2007/2008. Same reason whenever moot searched for janitors, it was for every board, except /b/, which was the board that needed the absolute most moderation.
Hunter Anderson
Their cert probably expired, god knows when mods will pressure admin to update it

We need to move into darknet people. Stop using the web. Make our own protocol. Be as decentralized as possible.

Nope. You just have to not be a tech illiterate boomer
This program was made by TOR, which is a Military program that the FBI have used to prosecute criminals through in the past. Anything that is not government funded?
Charles Gonzalez
Famalam, if you are afraid of someone watching your internet activity then you are a fucking weeb. I have nothing to hid and my thoughts and wants will not be incriminated, this is not the fucking UK and the FBI can suck my fucking dikk Like who cares, just think of the worst that can happen >"we have proff that on 21st of April ID: 2syF8yZc posted NIGGER FAGGOT KYS AIDS MONKEY LE 53%" >"yes?" >"will you stand guilty for these crimes user?"
Also captcha is expiring fucking fast today for some reason
Ian Robinson
Bingo. I had completely fogotten about that setting. What doesn't make sense to me is that it's not enabled by default. What's the point having that option whatsoever?
>chrome Yeah memeflag, I have nothing to hide and I live in Argentina. I don't give one flying fuck.
Thinking about it again, it might be, but 99.999% of whatever happens in this site is just noise. They might be just for the extremely sporadic CP, or school shooting threats, and even then, it's most likely it's a waste of resources.
Jace Taylor
Your understanding of TOR is fundamentally broken. For one, it's a software. It can't make anything. HTTPS Everywhere was made by the EFF, a not-for-profit organization primarily concerned with internet privacy. For the most part they do good work.
>which is a Military program that the FBI have used to prosecute criminals through in the past This only happens when you're using TOR as a ghetto proxy, which it was never designed to do. Most of the exit nodes are run by the feds, so they can listen in on any traffic between TOR and the internet at large. But you'd be an idiot for using TOR to connect to anything other than internal .onion sites. Feds can't listen in at the exit node if you never use one.
Joshua Johnson
100% agreed. I'm not afraid about anything really, mostly just curious as to why the SSL had disappeared. It comes down to Jow Forums having it as a "setting" instead of by default, which doesn't make much sense.
