Get a lil 22 for the purse. Good at close range and wont fuck her up when she pulls the trigger

S&W 38 sp, is perfect, if you get it too light (the CCW specific models) it might feel too snappy for her, if she's a little wimpy. otherwise yea i guess good choice. take her to the range until she can drive nails, you probably know this but if she can handle it get her to shoot a 357 or some shit until she;s not scared, then this will feel like a toy to her

Why don't you take her to the range and let her try out the options to find out what she's comfortable and good with? It's a tool. It's not particularly useful if she doesn't know how to use it and you don't know if she'll be any good with the choice.

Depends on many things but you're sacrificing a lot of barrier penetration, and a barrier could be anything like a heavy jacket or the palm of a hand.
.380 and up is standard good advice, especially with modern guns and modern loads. Small 380s are very small. 38 special is just over 380n and 38+p is just under good 9mm loads, point being that .38 is just fine, better than fine.
