You see, it's far easier getting people engaged when you have a charismatic figure attached to a company like SpaceX. It's basically just the rebranding of NASA.
I think it's highly interesting that Musk is slipping in some weird sentences, as if he's trying to hint towards truth. During one interview he suddenly switches to the topic of videogames. He starts off with Overwatch and then out of a sudden remarks "You played the original Deus Ex? The story in that one was the killer".
When talking about the recent "car shot into space" event he also said "it looks so fake it has to be real". No idea if he was just genuinely joking or again trying to hint something.
Overall I think he's a good bloke that got himself into a miserable situation by rubbing shoulders with the people (((at the top))).
