Yes, but it is very rare to see a "vigilante" kind of scenario, where someone shoots someone he doesn't bear any personal grudge to just for the sake of some twisted idea of justice.
The reason why that rarely happens is that americans live so immersed in themselves and are so egocentric and incapable of conceiving any value that goes beyond their own life and individual pleasure that the best they can do with an assault rifle, most times, is shoot a guy who fucks the girl they would like to fuck or the aforementioned girl for not fucking them.
