Darn, that Lockheed folks are good. Why are American engineers the best?

“The problem with tokamaks is that “they can only hold so much plasma, and we call that the beta limit,” McGuire says. Measured as the ratio of plasma pressure to the magnetic pressure, the beta limit of the average tokamak is low, or about “5% or so of the confining pressure,” he says. Comparing the torus to a bicycle tire, McGuire adds, ‘if they put too much in, eventually their confining tire will fail and burst—so to operate safely, they don’t go too close to that.’ …
The CFR will avoid these issues by tackling plasma confinement in a radically different way. Instead of constraining the plasma within tubular rings, a series of superconducting coils will generate a new magnetic-field geometry in which the plasma is held within the broader confines of the entire reaction chamber. Superconducting magnets within the coils will generate a magnetic field around the outer border of the chamber. ‘So for us, instead of a bike tire expanding into air, we have something more like a tube that expands into an ever-stronger wall,’ McGuire says. The system is therefore regulated by a self-tuning feedback mechanism, whereby the farther out the plasma goes, the stronger the magnetic field pushes back to contain it. The CFR is expected to have a beta limit ratio of one. ‘We should be able to go to 100% or beyond,’ he adds.”
>he thinks fusion is possible on a grand scale without destroying the atmosphere
Kayden Barnes
Shh, don't give away our doomsday weapon.
Jack Reyes
who gives a fuck, Toronto scientists have discovered new plasma physics that make any fusion project look like shit
Nolan Mitchell
blow away, little leaf

Because being able to trust a fellow engineer to not pajeet-out and memorize a puzzle rather than being able to articulate the elements of a puzzle, is valuable.

>The CFR is expected to have a beta limit ratio of one. ‘We should be able to go to 100% or beyond,’ he adds.” Nice. Space travel soon.
What are the odds this shit will create a self sustaining chain reaction in the atmosphere or the oceans and destroy all life on Earth?

>beta limit
So what’s Jow Forums‘s beta limit?

Nobody cares, nor wants to become like USA, London or Berlin. You could be all gods there, but you are still niggers that rape and destroy Europeans, so less worth than a worm. You know what's better than all your technology? Me walking in forest, picking mushrooms and not worrying about rapists or seeing niggers, then walking back home through sunshine, occasionally seeing white people and taking a shower.
Cooper Wright
The whole point of a doomsday weapon is lost if you keep it a secret.
Wyatt Gray
it wont even demonstrate an energy gain. its a pile of junk
Colton Flores
Are you not white user?

Unless its a reactor powered by maple syrup and sucking dog dicks, I call bullshit.
Evan Lopez
so why not into space?
>free and unlimited energy like in scifi >no only for us goy, you gotta pay. 1 shekel less than coal. >muh competition >muh free market
Aiden Myers
physicist here, the text which you posted, is total bullshit.. PR stunt text, no scientific reasoning behind it.
Juan Flores
>nuclear fusion secrets Don't hold your breath while waiting for a succesful startup... Perhaps your grandchildren might witness that, but not you.

>THE FREE MARKET WILL FIX IT
OH NO NO NO NO NO NO AHA AHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
You mean why the best engineers of the world leave their home country and go to work for American companies?
Elijah Butler
what is the point of hot fusion even? you've got designs for safe self regulating fission reactors and cheap waste disposal that you can build today right now. you've got upcoming designs to run on extremely abundant thorium very soon. and the cold fusion guys are almost getting stable outputs with shit you can build in your garage as well. hot fusion meanwhile still eats billions and produces no results. even if they break even it'll be amazingly inefficient compared to these other methods.
Lucas Young
LMT down -6,18% today. Why?
Liam Adams
>What are the odds this shit will create a self sustaining chain reaction in the atmosphere or the oceans and destroy all life on Earth? 0, literally 0

>physicist here, the text which you posted, is total bullshit.. PR stunt text, no scientific reasoning behind it. >Luxembourg flag
Yeah, sure, baby, because there are any physicists in your EU hellhole which just has EU people there.
Isaac Martinez
Sell the news.
Jaxon Powell
Lockheed went up 300% ever since they announced they had fusion and will keep it a secret.
nuke fusion tech is probably 30years old or more. Nuke rockets above from 50-60s

>implying americans don't give out patents for anything and everything with zero regard for the law >what are eternal patents >ignoring prior art >not caring about demonstrability >patenting broad concepts
That's just Rob Ford's body being cremated...you should get some good wattage for a few years.
Carson Thomas
>implying Americans don't give out patents for anything and everything with zero regard for the law
Bullshit.
>>what are eternal patents
Literally don't exist. you're thinking of copyright law.
>ignoring prior art
That's rich coming from a Euro.
>not caring about demonstrability
We care more about it than your courts, that's for damn sure. people have lost patents in litigation here for things so stupidly specific it's insane.
>patenting broad concepts
Literally the goal of patenting is to make it as broad as possible. Every patent I've run through filing, i've gotten more shit from the US and Chinese examiners than the EPO examiners.
Hunter Johnson
The lead scientist’s PhD was in fusion rocketry. Once they have this running, they just need to open one end of the reactor to have a fusion rocket. Good times.
