50's was when prices for good living was affordable and you could get a job just by wanting to work and walk pretty much into any factory/office and ask for one with no qualification but willing to learn and show up, that salary alone was enough to provide everything for your wife and 2.5 children, including house, cars, latest gadgets and education for your children. Today you can't get a security job without 2 years of prior experience and completing a college, you can't even work at mcdonalds without degree and references.
