Assuming speech doesn't endanger lives (shouting Fire! in a crowded theater, e.g.) why can some non federal organizations fire people for unpopular speech while others protect it? The isn't a single definition for what's protected. Maybe it's only because she has tenure (thread pic) the she's protected but what does that mean for 1st amendment rights for everyone else who isn't a tenured faculty in the US? Should a plumber, cab driver, Google programmer, or physician have less free speech protection simply because they aren't tenured somewhere?
