First of all - it's a child, who gives a shit? Even worse - with the current rate of brain degeneration, it's practically a vegetable. Northern European healthcare favours quality of live over quantity of live and considering that the degeneration is rapidly taking away what little time the child has, considering that the measures to keep it alive are (under normal circumstances) quite painful. Sure it's a lump of cells only fulfilling basic functions, but that's besides the point. Either way you do it, it'd be wrong in the eyes of someone. However, considering that there's basically no way of "healing" or "curing" the state of this being, atleast in my opinion, it's the right choice. Not only does this treatment prolong a live that'll go by unnoticed, it also siphons off resources used otherwise.

And the debate about just turning off the machines or not, or keeping the child in there or not is an absolute non-issue for me. Either just let the family do whatever the heck they feel like, but don't support them in any way (money, facilities) when it comes to their child. Or just stick with what's currently going on.
