Biggest problem is exporting raw resources There's 3 major tiers to any nations economy; 1.) Raw resource extraction 2.) Conversion of raw resources into goods 3.) Tourism
China has taken control of step 2 and driven competition on prices for raw resources to extremely low margins. Originally it was local companies manufacturing here, then moved to China, then got copied out by Chinese, now the money doesn't come back. Your economy is totally reliant on Raw resource export at the bottom dollar and Tourism, same for NZ. The only real remedy for this is tariffs and import customs fees similar to what Trump is trying to achieve. Pair that with benefits for local manufacturing and you might just turn it around. Maybe Australia could even start making cars again
