Don't know if Rise Against is considered Punk, but their songs aren't political, their videos try to be.

There's some very good aspects to it:

>small, tight-knit communities which generally oppose the degenerate music industry
>focused on older methods of recording so the music sounds real instead of overproduced
>there is an idealism and formalism to the music that goes beyond simple consumption or subcultures
>many of the bands are apolitical or go beyond the whole left/right fake politics

It’s a waste of time. I think it encourages ppl to wallow in their dysfunction and embrace it vs overcoming thier flaws.

It also encourages ppl to develop an identity based on consumption. “I’m pubk because I buy these records and clothes and pay money for these shows”.

In that way, the punk sub culture is degenerate (in the strict sense of the word) as it holds ppl back from developing a real identify and achieving lasting satisfaction.

It’s better to build an identity around what you do. What you yourself create.
