Actually while the thing he's covering up may not have been a crime, the coverup itself may be since it runs afoul of FEC laws, specifically it can be construed as a campaign donation that was well above the legal limit since he said he decided to pay the hush money out of his own pocket. Paying for her silence was essentially a gift to the campaign because it would have affected the outcome.

Pleading the 5th is not in any way an admission of wrongdoing. Judges will carefully explain this to juries and instruct them that they can't use someone pleading the 5th to judge them guilty.
It is almost always better to just plead the 5th, even if you are absolutely innocent, because aggressive prosecutors will try to trap you with bullshit and make you look awful by comparing everything you've ever done with some sort of ideal agent who doesn't exist.

From the day Trump found out the truth from Rogers, it is likely he informed Cohen. So Cohen knew too, and has probably been party to all significant facts in the case. Cohen would have assumed that he too was being placed under survelience. And it is likely that by Nov 2017 Cohen had already destroyed all evidence. Certainly by the time an active investigation into President Trumps affairs was under way, Cohen would have realized the need to destroy any and all incriminating evidence.

He used this company not to make a non disclosure agreement, but instead to buy the exclusive rights to the stormy daniels story. The stupid skank thought cohen was going to publish the story. In fact it is unlikely she knew Cohen owned the company!!!! She sold the story.
