Only people with training should be allowed to own a firearm. As a future former marine I received extensive training before the service trusted me with a gun. By contrast, any stupid redneck can walk down to their local Walmart and walk out with an assault rifle, no training required.
Ideally we need to have mandatory military service in this nation so that people will have the necessary training whether they want it or not. However, I don't see that happening. Therefore, we need to impose legislation that will require people to get training and provide proof or face confiscation.
