I just watched the new Avengers movie and I wasn’t expecting this... Thanos’ worldview and plan resonated with me: he wants to cull half of mankind because our resources are finite.
We could argue over the amount (>or< his 50%) but if I could do it I would. With a difference though. My ideal is a futuristic utopia, so I would choose whose lives I would take based on that: what I think would be best for our progress as a species. He makes no discrimination, it’s a random culling.
