We've entered a period of human development where skeptical thinking is required, where "common sense" is often more harmful than good, we deal with technology and science, as well as economics and other complex system that we have to use strict and dedicated ways of thinking to understand. We can't understand the strange and unintuitive nature of quantum mechanics without this kind of rigour and adherence to an evidence and facts based world view.

Atheism as a movement is kind of just the next logical step, claims about the world by theists can be assessed by these methods and whatever truth can be extracted.

It's not that science denies the existence of god, it's just that lack of belief is the most sensible and moderate position until we have proof either way, and that's something for the theists to provide to make their case, which they're generally accepted to have failed in doing.

The fact that there's angsty fedoras as part of that movement and there's many left wing idiots who are angry at god or want to stick it to the religious right, it doesn't invalidate the atheist position.

This actually is a legitimate way to criticize ALL religions including Islam and Judaism. You just need to explain why they have all been harmful to the world. This way you can drop redpills on many of the taboo religions. Try to give them credit for how they organized society but then lead onto how these methods of organization are a legacy which should not be practiced today as they compete with the more sophisticated organization of our society today and though competition may sound benificial it only devides and causes tensions which are by design of religions.

of those, only Marx doesn't write extensively about how important Christianity is to their thought, to the point where a Christian can read just about everything they wrote and have zero problems.
The best atheists (Schopenhauer, Freud, Nietzsche) are basically deists, and write constantly about how religion is true and good, but that God isn't. They can be put in the same sentence as Tolstoy, Luther, Handel, Calvin, or Dostoyevsky and you'd be perfectly justified.
The only pure atheist that had any intelligence was Marx, and his writings on religion are horrible. He's good only as a materialist Hegelian, something that itself has nothing to do with religion.

Oh and dont forget the religion in russia that worships gadget hackwrench as their god.
