The reason it was a huge explosion was because it was a munitions storage site. You can tell this by all the secondary flashes in the explosion plume.

This had none of the characteristics of a nuclear explosion. The first that comes to mind is the lack of light. Temperatures in a nuclear explosion at the point of detonation are many orders of magnitude higher than that of a conventional explosion.

If this were nuclear, the camera would have been momentarily overloaded by the light. Remember all the people with the goggles in the Trinity tests? And that was during the daytime.
