Why haven't you taken the GNU+redpill yet?

By keeping Windows installed you give in to the surveillance state. Are you a passive goy that likes to take it up the ass from tech companies?
>"b-but muh vidya" the manchild stuttered out while taking a sip of his söylent
Don't worry, Gaben loves Linux and is working hard to bring more games natively to Linux. Also there is Wine, DXVK and PlayOnLinux for you to tinker with. If that doesn't do the job you could still dualboot or have a virtualmachine with PCI passthrough.
>"B-but I have Telemetry disabled" the manchild said
Are you just pathetically searching for a reason to keep ridding Microsofts dick? Have you actually checked with wireshark to see if there are no packets send? Also leaving your OS outdated is quite a security risk. Stop jumping through hoops to get your OS to do what you want.
>"B-but what does it matter anyway if we have hardware backdoors" the manchild proclaimed
Just because you're getting raped doesn't mean there isn't a difference between single and double penetration. Yes hardware backdoors are a issue too, luckily paranoid hackers all over the globe are trying to circumvent this issue. If you're interested do a simple websearch.

This chart is meant for beginners, if you're confident enough to try another distro then you should use that.

I only play games on my pc. Should I hide that from Uncle Sam?

Which gaymes, if you don't mind disclosing.

>Microscholomo Botnet
LOL. I've been using Gnu/Linux since before it was cool. It came closest to what the university was running (Solaris). Meanwhile certain distributions have become easier to install than even Windows. Plus I've found it supports odd hardware that I can't get Windows drivers working on.

Does Linux support OpenGL?

>etcher

>Made with JS, HTML, node.js and Electron. Dive in and contribute!

lmao, kill yourself for recommending this garbage, just use Rufus

As far as I know, it does. At least it supports my NVidia GeForce.

Nice
Yeah it does, also got Vulkan support which is getting better every update. There is even a project called DXVK which tries to translate DirectX calls to Vulkan which is awesome.

I see.
Getting a bit sick of Windows and realizing I don't even play vidya much more now and what I do play has Linux support already.

It's for beginners and tech illiterate people. Etcher just has three buttons so it's hard to fuck up, I could also explain how to install cygwin and use the dd command but it's likely that they'll fuck up.

Dangerous virus! Stay away!

LINUX IS COMMUNISM.

'"the collaborative development of free software like the Linux operating system and applications such as OpenOffice clearly approximate an informational anarchist communism. Moreover, for anarchists it is precisely the logic of expropriation and electronic piracy that enables a radical political extension of the cultural ideals of the free manipulation, circulation and use of information associated with the "hacker ethic" (Himanen 2001). The space of illegality created by P2P (peer-to-peer) file-sharing opens up the possibility, not only of the open circulation of freely-given information and software as it is on the Internet today, but also of conscious copyright violation. The Internet, then, enables not only communist relations around information, but also the militant contamination and erosion of non-communist regimes of knowledge—a technological "weapon" to equalise access to information, eating away at intellectual property rights by rendering them unenforceable.[131]'

I actually just tried installing gentoo in a VM not to long ago. Something I don't like is that it takes long for packages to install because you got to compile them first.
I would say that Gentoo is aimed at power users and people that want a minimal environment. The power of gentoo lies in the setting of compilation flags which means you can customize how things compile and get every last bit of performance and shrink down certain binaries by removing features you don't use or are incompatible with your system.
It's an interesting distro that takes it one step further than arch but it's not suitable for most people.

The big distros are becoming more like Windows now.

Unless you want to go to some more obscure distro where you will most likely brick your computer because you don't know how to do anything. You are just better with Windows.

It's social liberalism. Disdain of private property does not imply total rejection of capitalist economics.

Wrong.
Not so wrong... But still wrong.

It has more in common with an aristocratic and fascist state than with everything else.

I'd say it totally depends on if you're a user or a developer. As a developer, you just can't match the flexibility, the freedom and the free tools that are available on Linux. As a user, just go with Windows. Oh, but don't do anything differently than Microsoft planned for you to do.

I don't do shit on my pc except play games and write. I have kept a veil of secrecy when I visit this site.

Hmmm sad to see you struggle with Linux.
For flightsim you should look at FlightGear ( flightgear.org ) which seems like a good project. Also VR support has become a lot better now. It's true that if you want to utilize certain features of Linux you'll be using the command line but this is also a strength but nowadays there is a GUI available for nearly everything you'll want to do on Linux.
What? Linux Mint?
Lul, the Microsoft shills have arrived.
Shut up, software development is different than actual the creation of physical goods. The Open Source development model actually works better than closed source development because you'll have more people working on it. Read a Cathedral and the Bazaar. Next thing you'll be calling science communism, seriously retarded.
What do you mean, more like windows? Windows is proprietary spyware, with Linux distros you can choose if you want to send the distro developers any info.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-communism#Gift_economies

'The expansion of the Internet has witnessed a resurgence of the gift economy, especially in the technology sector. Engineers, scientists and software developers create open-source software projects. The Linux kernel and the GNU operating system are prototypical examples for the gift economy's prominence in the technology sector and its active role in instating the use of permissive free software and copyleft licenses, which allow free reuse of software and knowledge.'

Either way, Communism or not it's all voluntary so it's not an issue.

>intellectual property isn't real property
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-communism#Economic_theory

' Crucially, the abstract relationship of "landlord" and "tenant" would no longer exist, as such titles are held to occur under conditional legal coercion and are not absolutely necessary to occupy buildings or spaces (intellectual property rights would also cease, since they are a form of private property). '

'In anthropology and the social sciences, a gift economy (or gift culture) is a mode of exchange where valuable goods and services are regularly given without any explicit agreement for immediate or future rewards (i.e. no formal quid pro quo exists).[122] Ideally, voluntary and recurring gift exchange circulates and redistributes wealth throughout a community, and serves to build societal ties and obligations.[123] In contrast to a barter economy or a market economy, social norms and custom governs gift exchange, rather than an explicit exchange of goods or services for money or some other commodity.[124]'

Yes, if you didn't know you can copy and modify software. Proprietary software has jew licencing that makes it illegal to copy or modify. It's like owning a car but unable to open up the hood or adding modifications. I will agree that GPL sucks just as hard but atleast it's making sure that if you modify anything you don't start jewing other people with that modified version. Stop being retarded. Open source software is the only way you'll be able to really own software, proprietary systems are black boxes which help the Jews use your computer to extend their botnet.

You probably also would defend Jews that sue farmers for fixing their tractor themselves. If you can't modify or redistribute the software, you don't fucking own it!
Stop being so stupid.

If you fear Jews so much then stop using a computer.

I don't care for excuses, Communism is Communism and any Communist of any sort should be shot on sight.

Attached: 1399099_p0.jpg (800x633, 198K)

Maybe because it's formated as NTFS? Which distro did you try? You should try installing ntfs-3g in your distro if it doesn't come preinstalled, it gives you ntfs support in linux.

>If you can't modify or redistribute the software, you don't fucking own it!
Which you agree to during the purchase transaction.
Don't want to agree to it? Don't purchase it and make your own fucking tractor.

You aren't buying the intellectual property, you are buying the rights to use the intellectual property of the owner of which they have laid out the terms of you using their property to you during purchase.
You're right, it's not yours, it never was, you fucking idiot, not unless you are buying the intellectual property itself, you are merely buying the license to use the IP.

Stupid fucking Communist, of course a Communist such as yourself has no understanding of Economics.
Have some fucking pride and at least admit it, then you would at least be an honourable Communist.

Attached: 1446955652982.jpg (300x301, 22K)

Oh so it's all okay as long as it's voluntary?
Then surely you wouldn't have an issue with people voluntarily making and using free software.

Of course not, as long as nobody has their intellectual property involuntarily violated.

But Communism failed for a Goddamn reason. People won't work for nothing forever; all free shit will prove itself useless in the long-run, I'm merely informing of the inevitable.

Attached: 1439129644336.png (500x500, 14K)

I don't know, but controlling the means of producing software and cracking down on people trying to modify the software they bought with the help of police sounds like communism to me.
You're retarded if you think that sharing your code and giving others the freedom to do what they want with it is communism, it's more libertarian than anything else. Why don't you support the community of building and improving our software library? It's like making it illegal to open books and read studies and improving upon that, instead you're only allowed to read the back cover and synopsis. Reverse engineering to see how a certain conclusion would be illegal by the state, building upon and improving studies would be illegal. Don't you realize that proprietary licensing is holding the development of our technology back.

You mean the linux pill. The gnu/linux term is a term coined by stallman to make out that gnu is some what the most important part of a linux system.

>but controlling the means of producing software and cracking down on people

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dictatorship_of_the_proletariat

'In Marxist sociopolitical thought, the dictatorship of the proletariat refers to a state in which the proletariat, or the working class, has control of political power.[1][2] According to this theory, it is the intermediate system between capitalism and communism, when the government is in the process of changing the ownership of the means of production from private to collective ownership[3], and the existence of any government implies the dictatorship of one social class over another.'

'It instead implies a stage where there is complete "socialization of the major means of production",[5] in other words planning of material production so as to serve social needs, provide for an effective right to work, education, health and housing for the masses and fuller development of science and technology so as to multiply material production to achieve greater social satisfaction. However, social division into classes still exists, but the proletariat become the dominant class and oppression is still used to suppress the bourgeois counter-revolution.'

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_each_according_to_his_ability,_to_each_according_to_his_needs

'The principle refers to free access and distribution of goods, capital and services.[2] In the Marxist view, such an arrangement will be made possible by the abundance of goods and services that a developed communist system will produce; the idea is that, with the full development of socialism and unfettered productive forces, there will be enough to satisfy everyone's needs.[3][4]'

I don't know about you but I gladly spend my hard earned cash on open source projecets. Their are tons of people working full time on open source and earning a good salary. Open source doesn't mean free as in price. Open source works better for technology that's why all the top supercomputers, space rockets and web servers all use linux. Stop being so tech illiterate stupid kangaroo.

>it's more libertarian than anything else.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_socialism#Anti-capitalism

'Libertarian socialists are anti-capitalist and can thus be distinguished from right-wing libertarians. Whereas capitalist (and right-libertarian) principles concentrate economic power in the hands of those who own the most capital, libertarian socialism aims to distribute power more widely amongst members of society. A key difference between libertarian socialism and capitalist libertarianism is that advocates of the former generally believe that one's degree of freedom is affected by one's economic and social status whereas advocates of the latter focus on freedom of choice within a capitalist framework. This is sometimes characterized as a desire to maximize "free creativity" in a society in preference to "free enterprise".[48]'

'Many libertarian socialists believe that large-scale voluntary associations should manage industrial production while workers retain rights to the individual products of their labor.[60] They see a distinction between concepts of "private property" and "personal possession". "Private property" grants an individual exclusive control over a thing whether it is in use or not; and regardless of its productive capacity, "possession" grants no rights to things that are not in use.[61]'

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part

I don't presume anything noble of tech companies, but if someone informed me of a cpu manufacturer that didn't spy on their user base, my first thoughts would go to AMD, at least their previous FX CPUs which I owned for work purposes. The only reason I don't just dump my PC and use a real ps2 is that emulation is way easier and looks better than the almost two decade old console.

>using systemd

I use Arch, btw

Nah, Linux Mint is quite good for people coming fresh from Windows. Especially Cinnamon looks quite similar to the Windows interface. Mint was one of the first distros that came with a graphical way to install packages. It does have some issues though like configuring Firefox to use Yahoo as default search engine for some sheckels for example but nothing to mayor that can't be disabled. Also their website could use an update imo.

>if someone informed me of a cpu manufacturer that didn't spy on their user base, my first thoughts would go to AMD
A Lemote laptop with a MIPS processor would be my best bet, but even those probably have some kind of backdoor.

Linux mint is trash mate. Since they switched to being based on LTS Ubuntu packages have been outdated as hell, they've had security issues and Cinnamon is styled after pre Win 7 windows. Shit no one wants to use anymore.
The one thing it was good for, preinstalled codecs, isn't even a thing anymore and mp3 is open now anyways.
Any Ubuntu variant is a better choice.

I tried elementary and Ubuntu

so what about other projects that are not apart of gnu? do we just leave that out like they dont have any importance?

No thanks, I will stick to OpenBSD. I'm not actually security-illiterate. Besides, Linux is bloat shit.

Because I like drivers that work, applications that were made for their intended OS, and not running shit through wine like a nigger

Linux is but a step on the path of enlightenment.
You can't just tell someone that has used Windows all their life to go use OpenBSD.

But I personally get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to build and maintain Windows servers and VDI...

Thanks for the wikipages, yeah I rather use technology that's made in the open. I don't trust shady greedy corporations creating good reliable technology. I trust engineers and experts creating the best stuff they can. I don't want a piece of technology that breaks down every three years due to planned obsolescence. I don't want a piece of technology that collects data and generates a personalized marketing ID to earn more sheckels. I don't want a piece of technology that is incapable of being run offline because they want to see what I'm doing. I don't want a piece of technology that gives data to governments and globalists so they can more easily manipulate and control.
But I guess I'm just a commie, right?

Technological and scientific improvement works best if people work together and with minimal restrictions. I don't want to spend a fortune on earbuds that don't break every 6 months, I rather pay a community of engineers that put an earbud design online that I can 3D print myself or order from the site.

its the same discussion since 20 years. its always the same situation. it never changes. its a constant.

I wish you were exaggerating, but that meme really has been around for 20 years.

I'm a copllete retard and know how to use Linux mint. It's great. I don't play video games though because I'm not 5.

If I switch to Linux, what should I do with my MCSE?

Games. The only real reason.

The RISC-V is gaining quite some steam, there was recently a RISC-V linux development board released.
Maybe you're right, I don't use it myself. I just put it in the chart because it's on the top of distrowatch.
sudo apt install ntfs-3g
Should do the trick, or search the software center for ntfs-3g
Based, yeah but most people need to get their toes wet before they feel comfortable with the more fringe operating systems.
What hardware are you using if drivers don't work in the current year under linux?
Nice, write some shell scripts to automate what you're doing and manage them under Linux :^)
It's getting closer every year, remember 10 years ago we couldn't game on Linux, but now we even have SteamOS.
You can still give tech support, or perhaps go for a LFCS or LFCE

the absolute state of this subreddit

The core issue with Linux/Unix based systems - they are not faster than Windows. More lightweight, depending on configuration sure - but performance wise they lag behind in critical application.

Even such simple and vital thing as browsing internet, which most spent 90% of their PC time, is noticably faster on Windows, has better performance and lower blueprint on Win than on Linux distros. So aside from "not being dependent on microjew", there is no benefit. I only use linux on PCs where newer Windows versions simply would not run and installing XP is pointless as its outdated.

People are confused in the whole religious operation system war about what they are. Its tools, and tools should be used when they are needed and perform best. Linux is not "better", its benefits are entirely different
1) its free
2) It is great alternative for expensive server operation system and for hosting tasks
3) Its better for terminals/or dedicated machines that perform specific automated tasks requiring no direct used impat (which can be if needed done from remote).
4) It is more flexible if you write application to be hosted specifically on it, as you can configure operation system specifically for your hardware and application.

It is not "home" system, the only benefit is cost if you are unwilling to pirate Windows. For it to be a real competitor, it should at least be faster than Win. If internet browsing/watching videos/multitasing were better on Linux -one could consider switching. However it is not, thus making it at best system for work, but not for daily usage unless you intentionally take gimped performance in coast.

Open browser with 20+ tabs and dozen programs in Linux and tell me how much "better" it is than Win and can do everything Win can do.

>If you fear Jews so much then stop using a computer.

I don't get it, am i retarded? Please explain.

you probably run a pirated copy, or in a VM. A proper Windows 10 install uses basically no CPU and HDD/SDD 99.9% of the time.

stallman will be eternally butthurt over this forever, he should have just started with a kernel to begin with

I use windows for my day to day computing due to some programs that arent available on linux. For work I use *nix based ones, the windows core and the registry is just terrible to deal with when you change setups

I've been running it on different computers with different pirated copies with different activators, I even run a legit toolkitted pro version right now. It happens literally all the time unless I manually disable those services or run an anti-botnet script that kills telemetry. You should keep a task manager open on the second monitor at all times like I do and you'll notice it as well

Windows OS is for Nordic faggots.

Honey how do you explain that all the top supercomputers are running Linux? Is that because Linux is slower? Also with top I mean literally the whole top 500 supercomputers run Linux.
Sure Linux could use some better graphics card drivers but that's mainly due too the small userbase that use linux for gaming.
Also I could show you some benchmarks to show you how wrong you are:

Please don't comment on stuff if you have not the slightest clue what you talk about.

Debian stable has really old packages, that's the joke. I think we've come to a point where updating packages doesn't break our system anymore and I like rolling release distros better. Debian is fine though if you switch to the unstable or testing repos, or stable for servers or if you don't care about running packages that are years old.

He did try to write a kernel called Hurd, it just never made it to the stage where it would be viable to use.

>implication
Tell me how Windows is faster? Sure I will admit that certain applications are more optimized for Windows and Windows has better driver support. But windows can't beat Linux in the server or supercomputer department with it's superior uptimes and filesystems. Windows is forced too keep using NTFS for legacy reasons also the Windows architecture is a security risk for normies who give every application administrative rights. Also for development, Linux is the one with the superior compile times.
Tell me where I'm wrong please, because I'll admit that I have a bias.

You're the idiot here, sucking corporate dick and enabling the surveillance state.
