you should know by now that in todays diplomatic climate "proofs" amount to Israel and friends claiming they have it, without actually showing it, and the West acting upon that "proof" and the people better shut up and cheer because no western Government ever lied, only Russia lies.

>US says Netanyahu’s presentation proves ‘Iran had a robust, clandestine nuclear weapons program’

The White House, which has long sought to amend or scrap the nuclear deal with Tehran, welcomed Netanyahu’s “revelations.”

“This information provides new and compelling details about Iran’s efforts to develop missile-deliverable nuclear weapons,” the White House said in a statement. “These facts are consistent with what the United States has long known: Iran had a robust, clandestine nuclear weapons program that it has tried and failed to hide from the world and from its own people.”

While the White House promised to “carefully” examine the information, President Donald Trump already used the opportunity to state that the Israeli presentation proves that he was absolutely correct in his own assessment of Iran’s nuclear threat.

“I think if anything what’s happening today and what’s happened over the last little while… has really shown that I’m 100% right” about the 2015 nuclear deal, Trump said at a joint press conference with his Nigerian counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari. Once again criticizing the deal, Trump warned that Tehran might soon have the capabilities to produce nuclear warheads.

“In seven years, that deal will have expired and Iran is free to go ahead and create nuclear weapons. That is not acceptable. Seven years is tomorrow, that’s not acceptable,” he noted.
rt.com/usa/425549-washington-iran-deal-netanyahu/

>Up to IAEA to decide if Iran lied & violated nuclear deal – world reacts to Netanyahu’s claims

“It is clear that the international community had doubts that Iran was carrying out an exclusively peaceful nuclear program,” Steffen Seibert, the spokesman of the German government, told journalists, commenting on the Israeli prime minister’s speech. “It was for this reason the nuclear accord was signed in 2015, including the implementation of an unprecedented, thorough and robust surveillance system by the International Atomic Energy Agency.”

Germany’s position was partly echoed by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, who also said in a statement that “the deal was put in place exactly because there was no trust between the parties, otherwise we would not have required a nuclear deal to be put in place.” She further noted that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is responsible for verifying Iran’s compliance with the deal.

Mogherini also said that the IAEA, which is “the only impartial, international organization that is in charge of monitoring Iran’s nuclear commitments,” has previously published 10 reports certifying that Iran has fully complied with its commitments. She then added that one has to wait for the IAEA assessment of Tel Aviv’s claims before making any conclusions on the matter.
>At the same time, the EU foreign policy chief noted that she found no evidence of Iran’s non-compliance with the deal in Netanyahu’s arguments so far.
rt.com/news/425548-netanyahu-iran-world-reaction/

So war in Iran is in Russia's interests.

>Statement on Iran by the IAEA Spokesperson

In December 2015, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano presented the Final Assessment on past and present outstanding issues regarding Iran’s nuclear programme to the IAEA Board of Governors.

In the report, the Agency assessed that, before the end of 2003, an organizational structure was in place in Iran suitable for the coordination of a range of activities relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device. Although some activities took place after 2003, they were not part of a coordinated effort. The Agency’s overall assessment was that a range of activities relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device were conducted in Iran prior to the end of 2003 as a coordinated effort, and some activities took place after 2003. The Agency also assessed that these activities did not advance beyond feasibility and scientific studies, and the acquisition of certain relevant technical competences and capabilities. The same report stated that the Agency had no credible indications of activities in Iran relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device after 2009. Based on the Director General’s report, the Board of Governors declared that its consideration of this issue was closed.

In line with standard IAEA practice, the IAEA evaluates all safeguards-relevant information available to it. However, it is not the practice of the IAEA to publicly discuss issues related to any such information.

>2 dead, 13 injured in militant missile attack on Homs – Russian Reconciliation Center
At least two people have been killed and 13 more have been injured in the attack on the western Syrian city of Homs, the head of the Russian Reconciliation Center in Syria, Major General Yury Yevtushenko, told journalists. The attack, during which the armed groups launched four missiles targeting the city, took place on April 29. The next day, the militants launched another missile attack on the city but it resulted in no casualties, the Syrian SANA state news agency reported.

>Jihadis returning to UK may need to be tried in secret, warns terror watchdog

Some foreign fighters returning from the conflict in Syria might need to be tried partly in secret to help bring them to justice, Britain’s terror watchdog has warned.

Max Hill QC said he would not want a “proliferation” of such trials because of the clash with the principles of open justice.

But he added that following the country’s first secret terror trial three years ago — in which a man suspected of plotting to kill Tony Blair was prosecuted — further “part-closed” prosecutions might be needed.

They would be for cases where there was “heavyweight intelligence” but limited evidence of offending overseas.

Mr Hill said: “We do have one recent precedent case for part-closed proceedings in a criminal court, and therefore there may be an argument that with certain returning fighters yet to come, where there is heavyweight intelligence but a lack of evidence, you could make the case for another Incedal-style criminal charge.”

He added that there was also likely to be more use of “Tpim” terrorism investigation and prevention measures to deal with the “real phenomenon” of returning foreign fighters against whom there was only “intelligence not evidence” of offending. Tpims are orders placed on terror suspects to monitor them and restrict their movement — such as use of electronic tags, curfews and restriction on travel.

Mr Hill also repeated his previous suggestion that some people, such as “radicalised teenagers or schoolgirls” might be dealt with by “other options” rather than court action. But “in the vast majority of cases returning foreign fighters will be prosecuted” even though “we’ve not yet seen, to its full extent, the return of those who left after the declaration of the [IS] caliphate”.

>An Assad ally plots a comeback in Lebanese election

A friend of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad who was once one of Lebanon’s most powerful men is trying to make a comeback, with the backing of the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement.

Jamil al-Sayyed rose to become Lebanon’s feared intelligence chief during Syria’s 15-year domination of the country after its 1975-90 civil war. He quit in 2005, weeks after former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri was assassinated, and spent four years in jail until he was released without charge over his killing.

Now 68, the retired general and former spymaster is running on Sunday in Lebanon’s first parliamentary election since 2009.

Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, a Sunni Muslim, is expected to remain in power though he is likely to lose some seats to rivals including candidates allied to Hezbollah.

But Hariri, who is backed by the West and leads a government that includes Hezbollah and nearly all Lebanon’s other main parties, has signalled his concern by indirectly identifying Sayyed as “Bashar al-Assad’s candidate”.

The Baalbek-Hermel constituency in eastern Lebanon, where Sayyed is running as an independent candidate, has become one of the most important battlegrounds in the election.

Sayyed says Hezbollah’s opponents have chosen it “as a point of confrontation”

“I am an independent but not neutral,” Sayyed told Reuters in an interview in his home village of Nabi Ayla in the fertile Bekaa Valley.

Making clear his allegiance is with Hezbollah, he said: “I have firm political convictions in support of the resistance.”

>Japan announces US$ 10 million donation for emergency assistance in Syria

The Government of Japan announced a contribution of US$ 10 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency to support the provision of vital services for Palestine refugees affected by the conflict in Syria. This generous additional contribution from Japan will provide Palestine refugees from Syria health support and emergency cash and food assistance, among other services, through UNRWA’s operations in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria.

UNRWA Commissioner-General, Pierre Krähenbühl, welcomed this timely support: “We deeply appreciate this generous donation from the Government of Japan during this time of urgent need. The US$ 409 million Syria emergency appeal the Agency launched earlier this year remains largely underfunded. This vital support will enable UNRWA to provide emergency aid to Palestinian refugee families affected by the war in Syria.”

>Why blaming conflicts in Africa on climate change is misguided

>Climate factors and violence
Some experts argue that Nigeria, Syria and Somalia all fit a pattern in which droughts and water crises have led to greater political instability. But these countries are also characterised by weak governance, ineffective institutions, high levels of corruption and failing economies. These are all strong determinants of conflict and violence.

Climate change might worsen conditions, but the real reasons many people in these countries do not have enough to eat are war and corruption. Take the examples of four countries – Nigeria, Yemen, South Sudan, and Somalia – which all faced the risk of severe famine in 2017.

In Nigeria, conflict with Boko Haram displaced many people, cut food production, closed markets and pushed up food prices. The rebels frequently took whatever food was left by force.

In Yemen, the civil war between Houthi Islamic extremists and loyalist forces made it hard for millions of people to produce or find enough food, and blocked humanitarian aid.

In South Sudan, the government repeatedly blocks access to humanitarian assistance to marginalise certain ethnic groups and generate revenue by taxing aid workers.

>War and political corruption in these countries are destroying crops and cutting off flows of aid and trade. If climate change has any effect on these conditions, it is an addition rather than the main cause.

Only in Somalia, the fourth country at risk for acute starvation, were food shortages the result of drought. But even here, ongoing conflict and decades of political incapacity add to the impact of drought. Evidence also suggests that the last prolonged drought, in 2011, may have actually undermined the military capacity of Al-Shabaab, a rebel group.

>Of the 19 countries the FAO defines as being in a food crisis, all are currently affected by conflict and violence.

CONT

Food riots, similar to the ones recently observed in Iran, tend to happen when food prices rise sharply after oil price increases, or when food prices are volatile. Although climate change might influence food price volatility, strong changes in volatility are the result of other causes.

Moreover, even if food and water crises can trigger protests and riots in developing cities, these riots are more often the result of social and political tensions that build up in rapidly urbanising authoritarian countries. To make matters worse, governments in these countries are often unable or unwilling to shield people from the effects of high food prices, for example by using food subsidies.

Food and water shortages caused by drought and prolonged heat waves might have an increasingly important role to play in warfare in the coming decades, but that is far from certain. What is certain is that climate change is not a universal cause of armed conflict.

In some contexts, climatic variations might tip the scale towards the escalation of violence. But the impact of climate change is far smaller than that of low economic development, authoritarianism, lax enforcement of property rights, and a lack of social safety nets.

>Over 40 Hostages Reportedly Released in Syrian Province of Idlib

At least 42 hostages were released in the settlement of Estabraq in the province of Idlib, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to the SANA news agency, the hostages were released as part of the agreements reached between Damascus and militants, under which the latter must allow the evacuation of some 1,500 people from the settlements of Fua and Kefraya as well as free 85 people held in Estabraq. The government must, in turn, ensure evacuation of militants operating in the Yarmouk camp located south of Damascus.

A SANA correspondent reported that 42 hostages had been released on Tuesday in Estabraq.

>'US-designed missiles' used in suspected Israeli attacks in Syria

US-designed missiles were used in suspected Israeli attacks on Syrian regime outposts that killed dozens of Iranian fighters, pro-opposition Zaman al-Wasl has reported.

The precision-guided bombs that hit two military targets in Aleppo and Hama provinces late on Sunday were the same missiles used in a similar attack last month, a military source told the news website on Tuesday.

The attacks killed 50 pro-regime fighters, including 22 Iranians, according to Zaman al-Wasl.

The unnamed source said that the missiles used were "GBU-39 small diameter bombs" and gave the outlet images of the remains of the missiles at the base in Hama known as the 47th Brigade.

>Some 150,000 Syrians have returned from Turkey

Some 150,000 out of 3.5 million Syrians have returned to Syria from Turkey over the past year-and-a-half, Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) chair Mehmet Güllüoğlu has said.

“Especially after ‘Operation Olive Branch,’ the Azez and Afrin districts [in northern Syria] have turned into safe areas. With more intense health and education services, more Syrians will be returning there,” Güllüoğlu said.

“Syrians have a strong perception of ‘nation.’ As soon as they know it is safe, they want to go back,” he added.

The municipality of Istanbul’s Esenyurt district, which hosts 140,000 Syrians and is one of the districts with the most Syrians, has even arranged buses to the southeastern border province of Kilis for refugees who want to return home.

Esenyurt Mayor Ali Murat Alatepe said 100 families have so far returned to Syria from the district.

“They bought houses and set up businesses here. We have hosted them so far but now we want to help them in their return,” Alatepe said.

“There is a demand from many families in Esenyurt to go back. I’m sure there will eventually be a small ‘Esenyurt’ town in Syria. They will find the comfort in places where Turkish security forces have brought peace,” he added.
