I'm a 3rd year general surgical resident. I would trust some of the female surgical residents to operate on me, but I would never trust a female physician in literally any other field. Female surgeons often think and behave like men, which is why they self-selected into my field.
Other female physicians have no actual problem solving ability or critical thinking skills. They just memorize mountains of shit, spit out whatever fits closest to the textbook, and run the treatment algorithm until the patient gets worse and they start over with another idea. I call this mindless medicine.
They attempt to make up for this by being "empathetic" but this only wins points with boomer women who have no idea how ineffective their care really is.
I blame the rising costs of medicine in this country on 1. female physicians who don't know how to cut out half their tests and make a solid physical diagnosis and 2. emasculated male physicians who think women are somehow better than they are because of muh empathy. This opens the door for mid-levels like PAs, CRNAs, and NPs who have literally no diagnostic fund of knowledge to lobby for greater independent practice rights.
This social experiment driven by cucked progressive medical administrations and academia is costing you money, and you should write your congressman.

I think that is more to do with price than quality.

I'm a pharmacist who went to school alongside plenty of med students at the same university, and I'd say that description is mostly accurate. There were some people who were chill and not spergs, but the majority of them were tryhard cunts who would do anything to get even a little ahead, even if it meant throwing everyone around under the bus.

It's possible that DOs are better though. When I was on rotations, I got to know a good number of residents from DO schools, and almost all of them were friendly and not cunts.

Very true. Fortunately I left med school with only 80k in debt (parents generously paid half) so I should be able to pay it off my first year of making real money.
I will say it is much tougher nowadays. I applied to 21 schools and got accepted to 3. Had 3.8 gpa, 96th percentile mcat, did research, had a job, volunteered. Still only three schools said yes. That was 7 yers ago. Can’t be any easier now for a white guy

The only extra element is that they still need to meet the Step exam requirements - but because they just brute force facts and often take much longer to study for the Step exams (think years, rather than the dedicated 8 weeks US students get), on paper its difficult differentiating them from US/Carribean IMG's/European IMG's

In residency selection, it is much more personal. The few attendings that work with residents in your department (with some resident input) are the ones making the decisions. In a medical school admissions scenario, we're talking 25+ physicians from multiple fields debating and voting on candidates. In residency, it's like 5 docs in a room deciding. Obviously, the residency selection paradigm is much more prone to nepotism
